Mike Leake is allegedly a dirt bag

It's just hilarious that he was lifting $10 shirts. I could afford them with the unemployment checks I was getting. Must be more to it than just needing some new clothes.

Reminds me of Winona Ryder... I have a hard time with these "celebrity" thiefs.

My favorite is still Ron Artest. From Wiki:

"During his rookie season in Chicago, he was criticized for applying for a job at Circuit City in order to get an employee discount."

This isn't a Lindsay Lohan type alleged misunderstanding. When I first saw the headline, I was thinking that he may have taken the shirts because he thought he was getting comped. However, the article said he allegedly entered the Macy's and removed the tags. No misunderstanding there.

Wow, what could possibly possess a guy making 425,000 dollars to steal some 10 dollar shirts?

I wonder if Leake has been shoplifting for a long time and even though he's now making more money than the vast majority of the population, he still can't help himself from thieving?

Reds RHP Leake arrested on shoplifting charge

I cannot fathom why he would have done this but, if guilty, he deserves all of the punishment that he gets. Oh well...another pitcher that will not be chucking it in the Central...

Unless MLB applies some personal behavior rule, there's no way he gets anything more than probation, so I doubt he misses any time...

Not only the $425K salary, but also a recent $2 million signing bonus.

I wonder if this was some sort of prank he was put up to. I can't think of any sort of "reasonable" explanation otherwise.

Mental illness?

That would be my guess. Some people have a compulsion to shoplifting just as some people have a compulsion for gambling and other stuff.

My first thought was if it was some sort of stupid dare.
Remember what Yoda said:

The only way this story could be better is if he were caught shoplifting Braun's affliction T-shirts. Then again, at $75 a pop, that would be a bit more understandable.

There are only two things I want to come out of this if Leake ends up making a start at Miller Park this year: someone behind home plate holding up a "Where's my wallet?" sign while he's pitching, and for him to walk up to his first AB to "Been Caught Stealing" by Jane's Addiction.

or the theme music to "Cops"...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I've given up trying to think of "reasonable" excuses for criminals. He apparently committed a crime. Let him serve his penance. No reason to try to justify it.

He needs someone to pull him aside and teach him how to act like a responsible human being.

Too bad he plays for the Reds instead of the Cardinals.

Will "classy Cardinals" jokes ever get old? I vote no.

Priceless...even though he screwed up the date for Leake to pitch:

Somebody alert Macy's at Mayfair Mall. Reds just listed Mike Leake as their starter against the Brewers on Saturday.
