Carpenter Extended

Carpenter, Cards Reportedly Agree for Two Years

According to the Post-Dispatch, the deal would be worth $21 million over two years, replacing the $15 million club option on Carpenter for next season. The right-hander would thus be in St. Louis through 2013, his age-38 season.

So it basically picks up next year's option and adds another $6 million for 2013.

How is Jeff Suppan going to explain to his son that he averaged more per season (a few years past) than CC will for the next two?

Seems like a pretty decent deal based on how he has been pitching. Obviously, there is a big injury risk and a risk for age decline, but not too bad for St. Louis.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

This must be his reward, for honoring the classy Cardinal way by "telling the truth" about how he almost started a brawl by cursing at a guy. Clearly, this man's integrity knows no bounds and therefore needs to be in St. Louis for the remainder of his career.

I was waiting for this to mention that Carpenter now has no more reason to have problems explaining things to his son...son, daddy screwed up, here's 5 Porsches. It doesn't matter that you're six, you want them!

Are we sure this is true? I mean, I wouldn't want Carpenter to come across as a liar.

I'm sure St. Louis just came at him with the contract -- he never asked for it.

I just don't understand why a lot are saying this will free up money for a Pujols deal. How does spending 21 million save you money?
