Jurrjens?

Posted
Ok, lets assume Aoki is signed by the Brewers. It's been reported the Braves have shopped Jurrjens and they clearly are looking for a bat. The Brewers could use another pitcher they would control beyond 2012. Corey Hart fits the bill pretty well for Atlanta. While I don't think Hart alone is quite enough for Jurrjens, he's certainly enough to be a centerpiece. Is it possible that Melvin has had discussions with the Braves and this has prompted the sudden interest in Aoki?

I would certainly look into it. Melvin has to prepare for the fact that quite possibly Grienke, Marcum, and Wolf could all be gone after 2012. You don't want it to be Gallardo, Narveson, and 3 super young guys from the minors as your rotation going into 2013. Jurrjens didn't pitched a complete season in 2010 or 2011 so perhaps there are some durability concerns. If I were Melvin I would inquire on everyone at ATL; Jurrjens, Beachy, Minor, and Hanson.

I am not sure where Hart would fit in at ATL though. They have Freeman at 1st and Heyward in RF. Can Hart or Heyward play LF?

I think Jurrjens is a bit overrated. He seems like a lesser version of Marcum. I wouldn't deal Hart for him. If they'd want to talk about Beachy then I'd listen but I think they really need Hart's offense this year.

I would think one of the easiest defensive transitions in baseball would be going from RF to LF or vice-versa.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I'm in the do not trade Hart camp but I'd budge on that stance for one of the Braves pre arbitration pitchers.

I wouldn't even consider Jurrjens because we'd have no flexibility to replace Corey's bat in the lineup. However you got someone like Brandy Beachy in return you could go out and sign Carlos Pena to replace Hart's production. The biggest problem I see with this Brewers team is that its way too RH heavy in the middle of our lineup and this might be a possible way to balance it out a bit and strengthen our rotation (and the bullpen with Narveson) at the same time.

Heyward is athletic enough to play any OF position. However, I think the Hart to ATL thing has faded off. I just don't see it anymore, mid 2010 yes, perhaps even last off-season but not now.

I wouldn't trade Hart for JJ. I've watched him pitch a lot and he is far from a sure thing. Minor, Beachy, or Hanson would be great too, but there would need to be a package involved that would send a bat back to Milwaukee. Any chance the Braves would sell low on Heyward?

Beachy + Heyward for Hart, Green, Morgan/Gomez, and Peralta/Thornburg.

That trade has no chance at all. I don't see why the Braves would want Morgan/Gomez or Green. For the Brewers to get Heyward they would have to empty out the farm to get him as there is no way the Braves are going to trade him for anything less than three top 50 ranked MLB prospects. Basically Heyward is in the same boat as Justin Upton was in last year yeah you could have traded for him but you would have had to of given up a lot to get him. The Brewers do not have the prospects to get it done to get Heyward. Unless you are willing to trade Hart and Braun in that scenario there.

Braves can't afford Hart....

The only reason they're shopping Jurrjens is because he's projected to make $5.0mm to $5.5mm this season via arbitration and when you have Teheran, Delgado, Vizcaino & Medlen ready & waiting....now if the Brewers had a LF & 3B (think Mike Olt quality) prospects to offer then you'd get their attention

you can call him overrated ....but I call a 25 year old with a career record of 50-33 3.40 pretty damn good
