It might not be fair, but my two biggest vents from yesterday were Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder. I feel like that ball Weeks let get by him in the 8th (?) was the turning point in the game. I'm not saying every 2B in the league gets to it, but from the replays, Rickie -- again -- reacted horribly to the ball off the bat and let a grounder that seemed potentially harmless roll by him without a dive. I hate his defense so much. And he's a worthless hitter on top of it. Prince had three opportunities (correct me if I'm wrong) late in the game to tack on some runs. Runner on third with 1 out, runner on second with 2 outs, and then runners on first and second with two outs to end the game. It's hard to be mad at Prince, but coming up bone dry in all three of those situations -- combined with the continued uselessness of Weeks -- made me want to vent myself into a coma.

Am I in some sort of Bizarro World? I read people complainig about a guy with a .379OBP,.609 SLG and 38 bombs because he doesn't get a hit in every AB (not to mention hitting a HR earlier in the same game as he basically carries this meager offense). At the same time posters defend a pitcher whose last 5 starts have yielded a whopping 28 innings allowing 24 earned runs as a result of 10 walks and 40 hits?

Chi Cubs 63 59 .516 -
Milwaukee 63 61 .508 1.0
St. Louis 58 62 .483 4.0
Houston 56 68 .452 8.0
Cincinnati 54 69 .439 9.5
Pittsburgh 52 70 .426 11.

Bizzaro World is right.

If many on this board were told prior to the start of this season, that todays standings were where the Crew would be on August 20th...... they would say that Ned Yost is a shoe- in for Manager of the year.

Instead for 6 weeks, its castrate Ned Yost day, every day all day. Every move is a mistake, every miscue on the field is his fault. He doesn't use the pen enough,oh no, he's burning out the pen. Pitch T-bow in the 8th, oh no, why did he put in T-bow, he's a head case? He should pitch Shouse to the one guy, do we need a LOOGY? Pitch Vargas, let him cruise he always wins, oh no, wht did he leave Vargas in?

Man some of this gets real old fast.(Thank You BF for a vent thread.)

If someone had asked me at the beginning of the season if i'd be happy watching the brewers surrender an 8.5 game divison lead, blow 4 5-run leads in less than 4 weeks, and still be only one game out becuase the team is 2 games over .500, i don't think i'd have been jumping for joy.

i heard something on the radio today that I didn't think of. Losing the 5 run leads hurts more than I even thought of. Not only do we lose that game, but its a swing of 2. so we blew 4, 5 run leads in 4 weeks. Thats a difference of 8 games. Its not going overboard to say that we should have won those games. So instead of being 2 games above .500 we would be 10 and have a very healthy lead in the division. Damn that makes me mad.

I'm glad we won tonight, it's a nice change of pace.

That being said, Craig Counsell should be fined $100 in kangaroo court, at the minimum, for getting struck out by JEFF CIRILLO.

It's a swing of 2 games in .500, but in terms of standings it's only a swing of 1 game unless the game was against the other team you're racing. Winning those games would make us 58-47, but the sCrubs would still have the same record and be 4 back instead of tied. So in the standing sense, it's only a 4 game swing. We are only used to saying .500 because it's been so long since we've been +. All I care about is games ahead.

right, I agree. Its not the above .500 that I really care about its the division lead. at the end of my vent I said and healthy lead in the division. A 4 game lead right now would look really really good right now. Those blown leads really really hurt. (I know captain obvious).

well.... the d backs certainly deserved another one-run win huh... glad the baseball gods gave all of our luck/ pitching to them this season.. bunch of undeserving overachievers

Why oh why does every game have to count the same?!?

In all seriousness it stinks that we just take 2 of 3 in Phoenix and still end up a game back. But those games in DC and Dallas are coming back to bite us now.

The Johnny Estrada interview on tonight's pregame show was cool, but I'm not happy because I missed something he said that I felt might have been important because FOX chose to play music in the background. Music accompanying interviews is simply unnecessary.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Vargas and Capuano both suck. They both get bombed against the Giants who are an awful offensive club. I absolutely dont want either of these clowns starting against the cubs next week. Let Parra or Villanueva start that game.

I don't know whats worse...that Vargas couldn't make it through the first inning or that Capuano can't even be trusted as a mop up guy anymore. Our rotation was a strength coming into the season, but now its our Achilles heel. Vargas isn't very good, but getting knocked in the first out by the anemic Giant's offense is unacceptable. Capuano went from being considered our ace by some to possibly being non-tendered in the offseason.

Our offense scores a bunch of runs and our pitching just gives up more. Its Deja Vu all over again, and again, and again...

yes I am so sick of it. I was jumping around when the brewers fought back at the start of the game to tie it again only for AS last year cappy to come out and give up to more runs.... OOO AND THEN WHERE DID THE OFFENSE GO ONCE AGAIN AFTER THE 3RD INNING????? does this team not realize its a 9 inning game and not 4?

There really isnt much to say at this point. The season is completely slipping away due to our inept pitching staff. I dont see any way that we can possibly start Vargas against the cubs next week. It really looks like we have completely choked away what once was a great season in the making. I also dont want to hear the "we will be better in 2008" arguments either. This division was absolutely ripe for the taking this season and we have once again choked. The Brewers cant count on the division being inept forever. There are no guarantees that 2008 will be any different than 2007. I just hope that Yost is back in Atlanta when this season ends.

How can you blame Yost for last night's loss? The pitching choked completely, plain and simple.

People are right though, Vargas should not be starting, which is just sad, since Sheets and still injured and they just put Capuano in the pen. I guess I would let Parra and/or Villanueva start, and just hope someone actually steps up in these critical upcoming games.
