Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2012

I had the opportunity to be at the Masters on Sunday. I was on the 10th hole at the end. It was great.

Anyways, that's not really my "random thought". While down there and driving back and forth from Atlanta's airport and Augusta, I and the people I went with could not help but notice how many abandoned cars seem to be on the freeway. Especially as we got closer to Atlanta. I have also noticed this in other states I have visited such as FL and AZ. It's rare to see an abondoned car along side the freeway in WI and when you do it usually has an orange sticker on it (from the sheriff's department or State Patrol). It almost seems like an acceptable practice to just park your car along the interstate in some states.

You can't say the economy is bad when people are selling and buying this crap

A freaking monocle for your dog? Seriously. For $50? And glasses and sunglasses? With lenses? Oh my goodness. Yeah, Fluffy has been running into the wall lately, I think he just can't see! I think he needs glasses. Good Lord.

Supposed to get the new field turf for my back yard next week. Gonna have a party to celebrate. Complete with dog games to inaugurate it properly. Thing is my wife and I can't agree on the party theme. She wants a green party where we make food with green ingredients like pistachios and such. I want an artificial theme were we make food like mock chicken legs or imitation crab meat. Tough call.

Maybe this is too easy, but why can't a theme be both artificial and green? Like your turf? Be sure to get some obviously fake (and green) plants/flowers for your decorations.

We thought of that but finding something tasty, artificial and green is kind of a tall task. All of this just to play with my dog. Ironic that I posted this after craigharmann posted the thing about dog monocles.

I know your incoming turf is both, but I fail to see why you can't represent the turf with some green foods and some "articifical" foods. And since this is for your dog, I assume other dogs are invited and dog food/treats will be available. I think it could work.

Some of each was discussed and probably the route we take. Seems a cheat though. As far as other dogs go sadly I have a dog aggressive border collie. Amazing with humans. She especially loves kids yet dogs are another story. The danger of rescue dogs is you don't always get them young enough to prevent certain traits from materializing. Dog aggression is one of them. It took us months to get her to accept our new pup let alone strange dogs. We do have other dogs over at times to play in the yard but she has to be locked in the house when they are over. I'm putting in the turf specifically for the game I created for her so it seems like she should get to play at it's inauguration.

Any idea if its fear related aggression?

Maybe but not sure. She tends to go after vocal dogs or dogs who are playing together even if they are half an acre away. That to me may indicate the herding instinct gone wrong but that is just a guess. Borders are known to be a dog aggressive breed to begin with. Usually you can stop that if you get them young enough.

Since we are on the dog subject might as well share a pretty cool story. A dog was found on the road shot several times. The person who found him rushed him to the hospital and he was saved. He's been named Seven. Seven is a well mannered dog who is very loving and gets along with everyone at the hospital. When the person who brought Seven in comes to visit him he howls and gets really excited. When he leaves Seven mopes around. The dude was around him for maybe a few hours but 7 has bonded with him in that short of a time. Dogs really are cool.

This^^. Thanks for sharing that awesome story. Wish I had some helpful advice on your b.c....from the little you've shared, I think you may be right with the "herding instict gone wrong" theory.

People tend to be familiar with Apple's 1990s "Crazy Ones" commercial, which was narrated by Richard Dreyfuss.

Since Steve Jobs' death, a version of the commercial narrated by Jobs himself has circulated. What most people don't know is that Phyllis Diller was one of the four or five voices under consideration for the commercial.

The problem with making really good roast beef sandwiches is it takes three days to prepare the roast beef. While it's well worth the wait the temptation to just eat the meat as it comes out of the smoker on day two is almost always to hard to resist. This is the second of the three days. I have yet to touch it.

My wife was mad at me because I knew what color my dogs eyes were and couldn't remember what her's where. Actually I guessed right but she knew I was guessing. I tried to explain to her it was because I spend so much time training and I have to look the dog in the eyes to do it. Then I added since she was untrainable I don't look into her's as much...speaking of the dogs I'm living with them for a while.

Friday was not a good day for streaks in the world of wisconsin sports. The same day that Axford's longest active save streak ended, Steve Stricker's longest active streak for made cuts was broken by missing the cut at the Players Championship. Incredibly, both streaks were at 49.

I love the idea of the nightly show on the MLB Network where they drop into the games and show virtually live highlights. But the announcing team of Greg Amsinger, Harold Reynolds & Mike Lowell is pretty terrible. They sound awkward & uncohesive almost all the time.

According to a report at Apple Insider, the cappuccino firm told developers that Macbook Pro 3.1 models - that is, mid to late 2007 machines - are not compatible with the new build, but said that issue will be rectified at a later date.

I made sweet potato curry with spinach and chickpeas last night. It was really good. Not just good for a vegetable dish but actually good. India really know how to do veggies.

i'd always thought that curry was really invented by British people as an approximation of Indian spices, so therefore, curry isn't technically Indian, but only has come to be incorrectly associated with India.

granted, i'd have to be some kind of jerk to point out a technicality like that (especially if i'm wrong) when you're just enjoying a well-made vegetable dish. my favourite curry dish: spicy fillet of baked fish over curried cauliflower. lots of protein and extremely low fat and calories.

Sweet potatoes originated in Central or South America as well so I guess Indian food is kind of multicultural.
