Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2012

I'm sitting in hawing's library looking at 1904 obituaries. One has the headline "Work Of Grim Reaper."

There were some pretty freaking awesome (well, dramatic) obituary headlines back in the day. That'd be one of them.

I was in an old cemetery recently, one tombstone (17 year old girl died in 1910) read: "Died from burns sustained while cooking supper."

Perhaps the Grim Reaper was somehow responsible for that one also?

It's New Year's Eve, and I look to the bottom of the screen and see that I'm the only member in the forum right now, with 0 (zero) guests.

Yep.

Sitting on the couch with daughter watching an old Drake & Josh and Mrs. H5 engrossed in her new iPad mini.

2012 is going out with a whimper...

Never fear, old man Jim. I'm here as well. The end of 2012 shall be remembered here as the year that ended with my son gratuitously vomiting in three rooms of the house. Bring it on, 2013.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Suddenly I don't feel quite so sorry for myself.

Best wishes to you, Godspeed. I hope Santa left you some good carpet shampoo or enzyme cleaner. . .

And I hope your son is resting comfortably, on his way back to full health.

I pretty much ignore New Years Eve other than to make it a good excuse to do nothing.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Over at the hawing compound, we were switching between football and a GSN Pyramid marathon. Now I'm lurking on the internets. Woot woot. Not super eager for 2013 but I'm OK with closing the door on 2012.
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

There's a fireworks display somewhere nearby.

....sounds more like 2013 is entering in with a comfortable sorta happiness.

You're right, Game05. . .I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Though in my moment of self-pity, I found myself in a state of boredom while my family was content and engaged in their own worlds.

I got really sick yesterday. The band I'm in was supposed to play a gig last night, which we ended up having to cancel. I have stayed pretty healthy this winter so it's sort of an extra kick in the pants that I finally got sick yesterday. Such is life, though.

Is Nikki Minaj real? Or is she just a CGI experiment some Christof wannabe is pulling on us?

This is more of a question than a random thought. However, my son was in a batting cage yesterday. The machine was 45 feet away and the pitch speed was 64. By my calculations that equates to 85 mph at 60ft. Does that sound correct?

If you're only looking at the time from when the ball is pitched to when it crosses the plate, then yes. Looking at other factors (e.g. the break on the pitch), they're not necessarily the same but probably close.

I've always wondered when they list the speed at batting cages if it is the actual speed of the ball or the 60.5 foot equivalent.

I used a gun to clock the speed (these were not "public" batting cages). So, it was the actual speed. It was humming pretty good...had to at be at least in the 80's. The person that owns the facility told me today in an email that the machine can actually get up to the equivilent 60ft 6" speed of 93mph when fully cranked.

The awesomeness of this shirt is making me seriously consider buying it even though I don't really give two flips about the Bucks. If the Brewers ever came out with a line of shirts like that I'd buy them up like candy.

Yeah, that is cool, though the price is a bit steep now at $28.00...plus I'm not sure how much longer Jennings is going to be a Buck. Still neat, though. I agree the Brewers should rip off that design.
