Great comeback, but nearly impossible to make up a 5-1 deficit in the third period.

2nd period defensively was the worst I've seen them all year. On one play Caufield was 'backchecking' and picked up neither guy...needless to say they slid it across Rowe for an easy Gino. A few plays later they cant clear the zone and leave the backside defenseman all alone. Complete breakdown.

 

Edit: Rowe did himself no favors. He did not look great. Moment too big?

It was nice to see them not give up and get the three goals in the 3rd period. The combination of the defensive lapses and the poor play by Rowe was just too much to overcome. The defensemen really struggled at times both with blowing their assignments and the inability to keep the puck in the offensive zone.

 

I think we can still have a nice run in the ncaa tournament - we should be able to play with any team out there.

Nice win for the Badger women. A fast start and hang on. Losing after being up 3-0 would have been devastating. However, not sure they were the better team after the first intermission. Still a win over the Ohio State University is nice in any sport. Title game Saturday night on ESPNU.

I like UWs odds. They played a tougher schedule than Northeastern, but Northeastern definitely has some skaters. Should be a good one.

It’s pretty crazy that in the 20-year history of Women’s NCAA hockey, only 4 teams have ever won national titles: Wisconsin(6), Minnesota(6), Duluth(5) and Clarkson(3). Clarkson’s success is fairly recent. For the first 13 years, it was just a 3-horse race.

No idea how Wisconsin got a 1 seed. They must have ignored that 2 to 3 week span where they had covid/Holloway was gone.

Could be worse ... Nodak plays their first regional game at 8:30 pm. If they advance, they’d play the next day against the winner of Michigan and Duluth (who play in the early game at 3:00 pm). I’d rather have the extra 5 hours of rest than the better TV window.

That's fair. Let me rephrase. Selfishly I want to watch the game with beers. I have a hard time seeing Wisconsin losing to Bemiji or UMass, but all it takes is one game. Bemiji has the top PK unit, so it might be interesting to see.

That’s huge for #2 overall seed Boston College. They get to rest until the regional final while St Cloud and BU battle it out.

Here are my Frozen Four picks:

 

Duluth over North Dakota *

Wisconsin over UMass

Minnesota State over Minnesota

Boston College over St. Cloud State

 

* Duluth is just magical in the NCAAs. They haven’t won a conference title since the 80s, but have won 3 of the last 10 national championships. It’s a tough draw for North Dakota (assuming they both win their opening round games) and Duluth will have an extra 5 hours of rest.

 

Side Note: They should have played an 8-team tourney in a bubble. I’m worried COVID will cut short a deserving team’s season (I don’t count Notre Dame as deserving - they were 14-13-2).

Oh come on ... Now Duluth gets a bye before they play tomorrow. Meanwhile, North Dakota (the #1 overall seed) has to skate tonight. I know we have to accept some inequities just to have college sports this year, but this is frustrating.

Yep, 2nd period has been better for the Badgers, but they looked flat in the 1st for sure. Though, both goals were pretty soft.
