2019 BREWERS OPTIMISM THREAD

Can I just say how much more enjoyable these games have been over the past few days with Hiura back in the lineup?

I understand (and, for the most part, agree with) why he was in AAA until recently, but as a fan it's nice to just see the best guys on the field lately.

Grandal, Yelich, Thames, Moustakas, Hiura, there are a lot of guys in this lineup that are really fun to watch hit.

I've also been having more fun watching Woodruff pitch than I've had watching a Brewers pitcher in a while.

Yesterday was rough, but I think the Brewers have a good shot to finish off the week strong and go on into the ASB with their heads held high.

It seems like we could use a little refresher of how this works for those patronizing this specific thread, so here you go...

LOL.....nice.

The Brewers pitching staff has given up 3 or fewer runs in 6 of their last 8 games. That is coming off a stretch where they had allowed 4 or more runs in the previous 8 straight games. Good progress on the pitching side!

Taking record completely out of it, if someone had told me that the Brewers would go into the All-Star break a 1/2 game out of first place, I would have taken it.

Ditto.

This team is hanging in there with a bunch of injuries and folks who slumped.

Shaw and Aguilar are returning to their normals. Hiura and Dubon will be better than Perez and Saladino. Then Gio is coming back soon.

It is the Cubs, not us, who should worry.

I am sorry but the Brewers with this schedule that they had after the first month i would have thought this team should be a bit farther ahead at this point with the schedule they had.

This qualifies as optimism how?

Maybe suggesting an improved MLB Draft position while still being on the brink of the division lead? They’re really threading the needle here to get the best possible balance in value between the two.

Now that is really optimistic. The Brewers are so good they can just pick where they land on the playoffs seeding and the draft board.

But when they win the world series, don't they have to pick last anyways, or is that other professional leagues?

The MLB draft order is finalized by October 1st each year and is set solely based on regular season record. It actually surprises me they don’t take playoff performance into account whatsoever. Two years ago the Brewers missed the playoffs, but got stuck with the #21 pick behind the Minnesota Twins (#20) who had made the playoffs. This was simply because the Brewers had won one more game regardless of missing the playoffs. The team with the best regular season record picks last. I believe playoff accomplishments are taken into account when setting the draft order for most other professional sports.

Maybe the Brewers are merely playing a well calculated game of chess with the standings! :)

Our starting pitching has been really solid for the last couple weeks it feels like. Our lineup with Huira up and Aguilar, Cain, and Braun hitting is scary again and gives a couple very good bat's off the bench depending who is starting with Gamel/Braun and Aguilar/Thames.

Yes, our starters have been good lately. Woody, Chacin, Davies and even Anderson have been pitching well and it will help to get Gio and Suter back. When Yelich gets out of his funk (only a guy like him can we say is in a funk because he hasn't hit a HR in a while - he is still getting on base and starting rallies) watch out.

It's still just so crazy to look at Yelich's stats month by moth. I would've sworn June would've been his worst month, but nope, 1.149 OPS in June. Even in July he has a 1.137 OPS. His worst month was May with a .935 OPS with 7 homers and only a .228 BABIP (He's definitely made up for that BABIP blip lately though).

He really has turned himself into one of the top 3 best hitters in baseball (it varies day to day whether you'd rather have Trout, Bellinger, or Yelich up there at the plate, but those three seem to have really distinguished themselves this year). It is no longer a fluke half season.

Cain is getting over his thumb ailment; the bats have started to heat up; starting pitching has been solid; in the playoffs if season ended today. Lots to be optimistic about.
