Mets have claimed Donnie Hart off waivers, Royals claimed Jacob Barnes.

Best of luck to them. Barnes just ran out of chances. Hart did well for us, and AAA numbers were skewed on a couple of bad outings. Wouldn't have given up on him.

It's hard to bring up the young guys before August as they pitched in A ball last year, so you obviously want them to get some time in the upper minors before bringing them up, so it would be after the All-Star break at the earliest. However, then you might as well wait until you get closer to September so you don't risk burning an option year for them (at least for Perdomo and Williams. Supak is already on the 40 man so he has already burned his option year. No excuse to keep him down IF he is ready and if he is needed). We are getting to that time though.

Would have been a good spot for a guy like Houser had an arm been acquired at the deadline. But you do you, Stearns.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

That’s a really good comparison right now.

The fact that this team won 96 games last year seems like a total mirage. It's a really bad pitching staff with a lineup that does nothing if Yelich isn't carrying everyone.

This is the situation that will not happen next year. Yelich-Hiura-Grandal-Braun coming up. Madden can play the matchups and relieve as needed right now, but next year he has to start the inning off knowing that the guy will have to face the first three guys then have Braun on deck. Should slightly increase the late inning offense.

If Junior Guerra or Jeremy Jeffress never pitch again it will be too soon.

Jeffress has been up and down his whole career. Would not surprise me to see him rebound next year. His arm problems in ST were probably a red flag as to what was to come. If he has a long off season this winter he could bounce back.

Guerra been bad the past couple weeks. This is adding to the frustrating pitching decisions.

Weeks? Try months.

Since the end of May, Guerra has now given up 20 earned runs in his last 30.1 IP. He has also pitched 4 of the 5 past days which is not nearly the frequency he was being used at earlier in the season.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

This...seems like a big reach. It's likely the same lineup minus Grandal and Moose next year. How that will translate to better late inning offense I'm not really sure.

Could one of the soft as hell Brewer reporters PLEASE ask Counsell after the game why he keeps using Junior Guerra in big spots when he has been struggling badly??

He’s giving a hypothetical about the new pitching rule, don’t think it was specific to our projected lineup next year...

Starting to get the feeling that this team has quit or begun to. They see the writing on the wall with this roster as constructed.

It was just a general comment league wide for all late inning scenarios, not necessarily Cubs vs. Brewers. Although Maddon uses Loogys and Roogys more often than others.

We should give Yelich a few days off I think.

What makes these numbers worse is he had like a 5 inning stretch of giving up no runs so take out that stretch and it is 20 runs in 25ish innings. I would much rather see Pomerantz take the ball and see what might happen

A day off wouldn’t hurt the guy right now. Hasn’t shown much power and is like 4 for his last 30. But hey, you do you and try to put words in people’s mouths. :rolleyes

Come on man. Frustrating times for sure, but if a professional athlete would quit based on likeliness of winning, half the games wouldn’t be played. That’s absurd. They have careers, families to provide for, they’re not quitting anything.
