Pretty rough 2nd inning for Corbin Burnes today.

He's given up 7 straight hits to start the inning: single > double > single > single > single > single > single

5-0 Fresno runners on the corners 0 outs still.

I don't understand how a young, seemingly uninjured pitcher with great stuff goes from being great to downright horrible. Really discouraging. The Brewers just can't catch a break with pitcher development. Woody was great this year, but seriously, come on.

I have seen very few things as baffling as this. I don't buy that guys can see the ball so much better out of his hand or any of that. But I think you almost have to just let him sit for a couple weeks right now, send him home even. Then bring him back and work with him. But running him out there and letting him get lit up is only going to further destroy him mentally.

Way too talented to be getting such terrible results.

Final: DSL Brewers 6, DSL Mets2 4

DSL Brewers Box Score

The Brewers are rapidly approaching must-win territory in order to keep their playoff hopes alive, and they did just that on Monday. They are still 3.5 games back of the D-Backs2 team and are in 4th place. Alberis Ferrer was the lynchpin of the offense, leading off, notching three singles, and driving in two runs. Ferrer was the only Brewer with more than one hit, though catcher Jhonnys Cabrera singled and walked three times. He's now batting .290. Jesus Parra was one for two with a walk, and was hit by a pitch for the 14th (!) times this eason. Good way to keep the OBP up, anyway.

Brailin Rodriguez, five days short of his 17th birthday, made his best start as a pro, allowing no hits and just two walks in six scoreless innings. He struck out five.

On the plus side Jimmy was good today

Last 2 2/3 IP he's got 7Ks

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Have their own AAA guys hit against him in practice and see what comes of it. Or send him to Wisconsin who isn't in playoff contention and let him throw a lot of pitches.

Stokes has been picking it up as well, over 900 OPS since the All Star Break.

It's why I kept him relatively high on my Top 25. His past new years, and his .827 OPS in July had me convinced he warranted a mulligan. He did miss time in April... took a while to get back on track, but he should keep a 40-man spot.

Dylan File with another 7 inning scoreless outing........

File's having few problems in AA. Got to think he's got a chance to start next season in AAA.

Carolina Press Release -

Noah Zavolas Earns Second Carolina League Pitcher of the Week Award

Zavolas pitched through his 11th quality start of the season during the last week of play

Awesome! Very high on Noah from the several starts I've seen. Surprised they didn't move him up, though Biloxi has been jammed with pitching all year.

look at Roy Halladay's reinvention demotion to A-ball. For a long time he held the record for highest ERA in a season

also, Shelby Miller with a 2nd straight solid start. Not trying to push him too deep in games. I wonder if the goal is to groom him for 2-3 inning stints while attacking guys, much like how it helped Woodruff learn to attack hitters.

AZL Brewers Blue Box Score

The Blues' offense managed three hits, two of them from Anderson Melendez, and could not score after the first inning. The two pitchers used, Alexis Ramirez and Moises Ruiz, did alright but unfortunately, did not manage a shutout. Both gave up two earned runs in four innings.

I'm writing a song all about you

A true song as real as my tears

But you've no need to fear it

'Cause no one will hear it

Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year

I'll tell all about how you cheated

I'd like for the whole world to hear

I'd like to get even

With you 'cause you're leavin'

But sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year

It's a good thing that I'm not a star

You don't know how lucky you are

Though my record may say it

No one will play it

Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year

It's a good thing that I'm not a star

You don't know how lucky you are

Though my record may say it

No one will play it

Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year
