Bucks 2021-2022 season thread

Using 19 shots per game to average 22 points is definitely not efficient. The league TS% was .572 last year and Westbrooks was .509. Sure, he *can* score, but it's definitely questionable whether or not a guy who shoots as poorly as he does should be putting it up almost 20 times a game.

Win Shares, BPM, pretty much any rating system you use, don't really value Westbrook a lot. He's a counting stat guy. He's the baseball equivalent of a guy who gets 200 hits while 170 of them are singles, and plays mediocre defense and doesn't take any walks.

The Lakers got him for spare parts and whatnot because that's all he's worth. He's a big name who's full of empty stats. He can fill up the sheet without doing anything of any real note.

Think some are a bit too critical of Westbrook. He's a great player, but like I said, I think the real bonus of that add for LAL is that LeBron can rest and they still have a volume scorer so they won't fade into 9th place again. They are absolutely going to have to find a shot somewhere, though.

Westbrook has always been a player that will raise your floor tremendously, but he won't do a whole lot for your ceiling. It may work in LA because their ceiling is already high enough. It could definitely go poorly though if they aren't good filling out the roster.

If Tucker re-signs too, the championship rotation will be back for a repeat.

I guess technically you’d need Teague, right?

No, Teague was DDV's injury replacement and he wasn't good. When DDV returns, there is no need for Teague.

BTW, the Bucks still have a MLE that they can use to sign a player that is better than Teague to round out the rotation.

I am hardly interested in NBA cap/signing rules but I think we have a trade exception. Maybe we hang onto that and give us room to trade for a defensive stopper mid-season.

DDV is a question mark with his injury and we need a backup point guard. So, I hope we sign a guard who can score on the wing and a point guard who can defend and run the offense.

Looking at the current roster, the Bucks probably need to get a big and a guard for the rotation.

PG: Jrue / Bryant

SG: DDV / ???

SF: Khris / Nwora

PF: Giannis / ???

C: Brook / Bobby

Reserves: Merrill, Kalaitzakis, Diakite, Mamukelashvili

My bad, I forgot about Pat Connaughton, an important member and played well in the postseason. :laughing

How about Patty Mills on the MLE to back up Jrue?

Looks like he's coming off a 4/50 deal that paid him 13.5 million last season.

Probably a pipe dream but seems like one of the better fits still out there, guessing he doesn't sign until after the Olympics though.

Adrian Wojnarowski

@wojespn

Free agent F Semi Ojeleye has agreed to a one-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, his agent Sean Kennedy of

@excelbasketball tells ESPN.

Current Bucks roster, maybe the Bucks can find a better backup PG instead of Bryant.

The Bucks still have a $4.8M TPE.

I believe the Bucks only have the Taxpayer Midlevel Exception available, which is $5.9M.

The standard mid-level exception is worth around $9.7M.

Yup, the Bucks have a Taxpayer Midlevel Exception of about $5.9M, but not sure if the use some of it on Semi.

The Bucks also have a $4.8M Trade Exception and a $1.6M Trade Exception.

We could have offered him more than this if we had wanted.

While I valued Tucker, I do think he's very one dimensional at this point. Offensively, he basically camps out in the corner and tosses up 3s. People get that now. But he surely helped out last year. Let's hope we find someone who can replace his energy, defense and smarts.

Important thing about the trade exception is it can only be used for a trade. We can't sign a FA with it (or combine with someone in a trade).

But who knows. Maybe we can find someone looking to offload a decent player who doesn't fit with them. Or just clear some cap space. Never know.

Getting Portis back another year was huge. Like someone said, the predictions were he would probably find a deal in the $10M range.

I think next year we will have full bird rights on him - so if things click (and he opts out of the 2nd year of the deal) he is counting on us resigning him to a larger deal at that point.
