Bucks 2021-2022 season thread

Tucker was a great rental but when you start talking about $10 million a year for a guy that really does nothing except "be feisty" it starts getting silly. Yes Tucker had some great moments in the playoffs but that's now glossed over long stretches of the regular season where the consensus was largely "this guy is our spark?"

He cashed in because everybody was watching. It happens every year. Good for him. I'd have liked him back for a hometown discount, but not at market value. Oh well. Have to find next year's Tucker.

Good news, Semi is only on a minimum deal, which means Bucks still have the $5.8M MLE to spend on another player.

Per a league source, the Bucks are adding free agent forward Semi Ojeleye on a one-year, minimum deal.

@wojespn had it first.

I’d be a little peeved if they had signed Semi to anything other than a minimum deal. Seems like he’s one of those guys that plays nearly half the game off the bench and manages to accumulate like no stats since he doesn’t really excel at anything.

It might have been one of those things where Tucker was like, "I loved my time in Milwaukee. I got a ring. I'm proud of it all. But now - for the first time in my life - I get to pick where I'm going. So thanks, Milwaukee, but I have my heart on South Beach. Unless you're willing to throw stupid money at me - that's where I'm going."

If that's the case - wish the man well (but not too well - if you know what I mean) - and move on.

Hey, I can do that!

I'd maybe accidentally foul someone (just because I couldn't get out of the way). I could even see getting a weird rebound that bounced right to me.

And I could get hurt. That wouldn't be a problem.

I thought the team would bring back Thanasis Antetokounmpo for league minimum. But who knows.

Yeah, would imagine Thanasis is back for sure & also wouldn't be surprised if he gets a little more playing time than the 57 G / 551 minutes he logged last season.

I think the recent 2nd rounders will be two way/G League guys so I'd have the roster something like...

PG: Jrue / MLE

SG: DDV / Pat

SF: Khris / Nwora

PF: Giannis / Semi

C: Brook / Bobby

Garbage Time: Bryant, Merrill, Thanasis, Diakite

Guessing they leave the 15th spot open for future flexibility or they could split the MLE between a backup PG & maybe a backup SF with better defensive chops than Nwora.

Looks like Sixers are going to waive George Hill, I wouldn't mind getting him to be our backup PG on a cheap 1 yr deal.

The Philadelphia 76ers are planning to waive guard George Hill, sources tell @TheAthletic

@Stadium. Hill had a partial guarantee on next season's contract.

I think Hill said some not so flattering things about the Bucks after he was traded last year. I'd be surprised if he came back.

I don't recall that. I remember something about how he was one of the leaders in doing something about the Blake shooting, and hinting that he knew he'd ruffled some feathers but it didn't sound so serious that he wouldn't play for the Bucks again. I dunno that they even would have gotten rid of him if the chance to get Holiday hadn't come up.

I just looked it up again and sort of feels like Hill made something up in his head for why the Bucks traded him. I never got the sense the Bucks had any big problem with the walkout.

We could have offered him more than this if we had wanted.

While I valued Tucker, I do think he's very one dimensional at this point. Offensively, he basically camps out in the corner and tosses up 3s. People get that now. But he surely helped out last year. Let's hope we find someone who can replace his energy, defense and smarts.

- adding Tucker on a two-year, $15 million deal, the same one the Heat gave him, would have put the Bucks $22.2 million over the luxury tax line and incurred a luxury tax payment of $53.3 million at the end of the season

- adding Tucker on a two-year, $20 million deal, would have put the Bucks $24.7 million over the luxury tax line and incurred a luxury tax payment of $62.7 million at the end of the season

- adding Tucker on a two-year, $20 million deal, but then taking Portis off the cap, would have put the Bucks $20.2 million over the luxury tax line and incurred a luxury tax payment of $45.8 million at the end of the season

Yeah, going into paying the tax is pretty brutal in the NBA.

Adrian Wojnarowski

@wojespn

Free agent F Rodney Hood has agreed to a one-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, agents Ty Sullivan, Austin Brown and Aaron Mintz of @CAA_Basketball tell ESPN. Another perimeter shooter for the Bucks in pursuit of defending their title.

Posted
My bet is that Hood also signed a minimum deal, as he too is a journeyman-type that doesn't really do anything overly well. Seems like they may be interested in carrying a few of those types to see if they stand out for a deep bench-type roll, but I'd still expect someone more significant with their MLE.
Posted
looks likw bucks got cheaper versions of Tucker and Forbes on one year deals. I think they will find someone to take their MLE and be done with free agency. They didn't have to do much and have been able to address needs without spending $. If they can get Lou Williams to take their MLE, i think they should be pretty happy with free agency.

DDV will probably still be out when the season starts, so the SG rotation will be Pat and Hood until DDV returns.

With Hill back, the Bucks roster is now.

PG: Jrue / Hill

SG: DDV / Pat / Hood

SF: Khris / Nwora

PF: Giannis / Ojeleye

C: Brook / Bobby

Reserves: Bryant, Merrill, Kalaitzakis, Diakite, Mamukelashvili

Posted
Hill will be a good fit for the Bucks, he's a good 3pt shooter and defensive PG, and he's familiar with the Bucks system of play and the coaches, as well as Giannis, Khris and Brook.

Kind of figure Thanasis will be on the roster. Also assume Hill is signing a vet minimum contract which means the Bucks will have the TPMLE to bring in a player during the season.
