He would seem like the most Stearns, Brewer signing ever. I'm still not convinced they have the money/ willing to spend even at $15-16 mil / year. The consensus seems to be in the 4/ $60-68 mil range. Anybody interested at that cost?

 

He's not a star but clearly above average and of course the calling card versatility. There's not a lot of FAs that I'm super interested in that I think will fall to the Brewers price range; Taylor would make my short list.

Not really at that price and those years. What was the average corner OF ops? Just curious how much above average he really or is his value really in his versatility?

Last year MLB LF had an OPS of .736 and RF was .774. Taylor's was .782. His OPS the last 4 years is .790 and translates to a 111 OPS+. Regardless of position, he would have been one of the Brewers best hitters the last 4 years.

We will not sign Taylor. The Dodgers will. He will just use the Brewers to drive the price up a bit.

I like Taylor a lot. I love his versatility. His bat is good - but not great. If we make a FA signing, he doesn't boost the offense that much. He's good - but it's not like he's a middle of the order game changer. Still, he'd be really nice to have.

 

Personally, I doubt we go for a long term deal like he'll get - but you never know.

Believe that contract was signed as an extension buying out arbitration years, not as a free agent.

Taylor has declined the Qualifying Offer from the LA Dodgers (1 yr $18.4M) so:

a) he is likely looking for a larger overall sum of money

b) depending on the signing amount the signing team would be giving up a draft pick as well as the money...
