todays bracketology update has Marquette as a 6. Seems a little high and clearly aided by their hot streak.

Ranked 22nd (4 brackets, 4 six seeds, 4x6=24) on the strength of 3 straight wins over ranked teams. 5 total wins over ranked teams. Doesn't seem a little high at all to me.

mathwise, yes you are correct. I just wonder if they will be 6 come March. They are as hot as they have been since Buzz was here. maybe they never slowdown, I hope so.

Tough schedule coming up, but Marquette looks really good for a decent seed. Could they get really hot and end up a 4? Probably not, but if they can, it would be fun to have both UW and Marquette scheduled at Fiserv. What a great day for Wisconsin hoops that would be.

Long shot, but might as well dream while both programs are having quality seasons.

So, Milwaukee is the "host" school at Marquette's home court? Host school's can't compete at their home court in the tourney...not sure if you can get around that by having a different school host in your home arena...

Marquette cannot play at Fiserv, it states right on the NCAA information that MU puts out that Marquette will not be one of the teams. If they do continue to play well I could see a date at Indy though which is close enough if fans really wanted to drive down to see them.

I forgot about the three games rule. In the tourney, you cannot play anywhere you've played more than three games. Nova is only playing just two at one of the big Philly venues so they're eligible to play there come tourney time.

My fault.

Would love to see UW and MU both get protected seeds, though!

Next seasons holiday tournament will feature Georgia Tech, Marquette, Mississippi State and Utah in Fort Myers. I know Mississippi St is OK, but this is hardly as prestigious as the tournament they played this season which really was a catalyst for this season.

At this point, I think it's worth asking whether Marquette has a higher ceiling than Wisconsin. I think I would lean toward yes.

Both are very good l, and that's a great thing for basketball in the state.

I ain't going to argue with you. I haven't watch the badgers yet, but they know they struggled against Illinois last night. Both teams have massively outperformed preseason expectations, but few teams in the country are hotter than the Marquettes.

ESPN has had Marquette as a stable 7 for the last couple updates. Their final 2 are pretty winnable. That would give them 20 wins, 12 in conference going into the tournament. Very good opportunity to move up a little bit. Also it looks like MU is slated for the 4-5 game against Creighton to start the tournament.

Didn't get to watch them last night, but very disappointing results last. Obviously it is imperative to beat the Johnnies Saturday night. Right now their Kenpom fell to 41 after loosing last night, which isn't good. Not exactly on the bubble, but ending their regular season with a loss and loosing their first tournament game would really put MU in a tight spot.

Yeah, DePaul's been feisty at home.

Agree with where you are. Marquette shouldn't be worried, but win v. Saint John's. That means you can only take one more L, and it probably locks you up.

I believe Marquette is in but they are hanging around the 8-10 seed territory. If they can win one or two games I think they will get an 8 seed in the tournament. Marquette is going to be a dangerous team in the tournament if they get hot. I think Marquette is going to be the popular upset pick and I wouldn't be surprised to see them go on a run where they get two or three wins in the tournament.

Just asking, if they get an eight seed, they would play a 1 in the second round. Is there a potential one-seed that you think Marquette matches up best with? If they were a 7, is there a two you would like to see?

I don't think there is a single 1-4 seed team that are overly dominant where they can't be upset. All four of the current 1 seeds can be beaten and are not overly dominating but a preferable matchup would be with either Auburn or Arizona. For a number 2 seed I think Marquette matches up fairly well with Kentucky or Duke.

Quick edit I got the midwest and east mixed up for the seedings as a #7 Marquette would probably play Auburn or Kentucky depending on where they put Kentucky or Auburn probably Auburn in the East region. If Marquette is a #8 then they will be in the Midwest region and the #1 there should be Baylor or Kansas.

The Garden is going to be nuts this week. The Big East is just the best. All basketball, and tons of rabid fan bases. I think Providence is the most fun team in the country.

I'm also feeling Marquette getting hot. They just seem like the right team to drive people crazy out of conference.

I think Arizona is the weak link of the one seeds. If they put the Badgers and Arizona together in the West region again, Arizona might forfeit.

Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the MU thread with a Badger mention. It was meant more as an Arizona comment.

I think of the potential #1 seeds, probably Kansas is the best matchup for them and Gonzaga probably the worst. Obviously teams are #1 seeds for a reason so there isn't a great answer to that question. Right now ESPN has Marquette as a 7. As far as 2's, i'd love a chance to take out Duke as a 2, but I think Kentucky is probably Marquette's best potential opponent. (I think UW is a 2, and Marquette will not play them in the first 2 rounds since they played in the regular season).
