The thread title misleading. It says Willy's OBP is .289, which was accurate as of July 29, 2022.

But now, nearly a year later, Willy has raised his OBP all the way to .291.    Take that haters!!!!

Since this seems to be a pro-Hiura, anti-Adames thread, Wily is 6 for his last 18. Only posting that to provide both sides. I'm not really a fan of Wily.

It is not anti-anything Brewers.
It is going on about a year now where Adames has been putrid with the bat. He plays everyday and bats the heart of the order. I won’t even say his stats in fear of upsetting a few. I will say that Hiura had a two run HR tonight, though. And that Adames’ OPS was almost 100 points higher last year when this thread was started.

Defense matters...

Hiura needs to be up.  He was one of our best hitters last year and we need to see if he’s figured something out.  Winker can be released.  Miller needs to return to utility.  He had a brutal game on offense and defense, and has been that way several weeks now.

losing Mitchell has really hurt.  Yelich should be getting a defensive replacement in late innings like tonight.

Yelich has been a gold-glove caliber LF this year...

I'm aware. I'm just saying it shouldn't be a one for one comparison with Adames because Adames is an elite defender, whereas Hiura is the opposite.

Apparently you listen to the Brewers broadcast crew.  He has a noodle arm, gets terrible jumps on balls, and when he slides or dives he hands away extra bases.  Yelich’s best position is DH.

Apparently you don't know what you're talking about. He's in the 84th percentile in OAA this year.

If they only had the DH in the NL…

The comparison lies in the opposite. Adames gets praise and hits high in order everyday; Hiura seems stranded in AAA and yet would be a major upgrade at DH with LAST YEAR’S MLB stats and would desperately fill a DH void. What is our DH OPS again?

What does being an elite defender have to do with him being our #3 hitter?

I simply do not believe this.  He hasn't played GG defense since he won his GG as a Marlin.

I'm pretty sure I never said he should be the #3 hitter in the order...Adames plays elite defense at a premium position, so obviously he has an advantage over Hiura on the roster.

The comparison should be Hiura vs. Winker/Rowdy.

The stats disagree with you. He's been the best or second best LF in the National League this year, depending on which metrics you look at.

The stats I saw said he has the worst range of our OF and is below average defensively.

Again, 84th percentile in OAA...That leads all qualified NL left-fielders.

Of course, he would have the worst range of our OFs considering Wiemer and Perkins are both CFs and among the best defenders in the league. Among LFs leaguewide, he's been the best or second best.

So Adames should go down in the order? You agree.
Adames .668 OPS should be down in the order? Progress.

Hiura should be our DH? You agree? I will spare you our DH OPS and Hiura’s 2022 and 2023 stats.

This thread originated after Hiura was sent down in July of last season just 5 games before the all star break in the midst of one of his hot streaks because the Brewers needed another arm in their bullpen and he was the guy with an option to shuttle back and forth - they sent their hottest hitter from a roster who struggles with offense down to bring up Connor Sadzeck who gave them 3 innings of 9.00 ERA/1.7WHIP production from the mound because the Brewers need to seemingly keep 20-something pitchers on their MLB roster...so yes the thread title is a little bit aged - Right now, Hiura absolutely needs to be this roster's primary DH for the rest of the season, and it should come at the expense of DFA-ing one of the unproductive veteran hitters who have taken up DH at bats so far this season...

Yup, and it was off that young phenom Jerad Eickhoff, or maybe I’m confusing the pitcher with a 33 year old journeyman who has a 10.88 in the majors since 2019…

All kidding aside, AAA stats are not really indicative of anything as the vast majority of pitching in that level is comprised of journeyman depth pieces.

You have to admit, though, in spite of the objective evidence, that this is, indeed, hard to believe.

According to my subjective eye-test, he's much, much better out there this season, so I get it.

It probably means many teams are putting their bats out in left this season, or that if he played for the bottom-half of the league, he may be a below average CFer.

Just use Hiura’s 2022 MLB stats then…

He sucked then too. 40% k rate, terrible in the field, hit some dingers. Meet Chris Carter.

.866 BA against righties…

Higher OPS than Adames (our #2 hitter)overall…Yanked around consistently  between AAA and MLB, in the order, in the field… opposite of Adames. Still had a better OPS than Adames with inconsistent and spotty playing time.

And there is a DH in the NL… not sure if you and CC have heard that yet. You can use it each and every game. Those guys don’t play in the field.
