The DSL Brewers 2 game versus the DSL Tigers 2 was suspended in the bottom of the 3rd inning. 18-year- old righty, Daniel Corniel, was dealing through 3 IP with a sole hit surrendered and four strikeouts in the tally.

However, the real news of this game, perhaps:

Yeison Perez, playing right field today, hit his 15th double of the season in his sole AB. That’s now a 0.351 BA with a 1.127 OPS after 114 registered AB’s.

Good 12-hit, come-from-behind, 5-4 victory for DSL Brewers1, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 9th inning to defeat DSL Texas Red.

18-year old RHP Aneuris Rodriguez (5 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 1 balk, 1 K) had his 2nd straight solid start.

17-year old 2B Angel Pereira (4-for-5) notched 4 singles and super signing SS Jhonny Severino (2-for-5; stole his 10th base, though committed his 17th error) had a key 9th inning double. RHP Bryan Rivera also returned after a 5-week absence.

Nice to see Ernesto Martinez and Logan Henderson getting back on the field in Arizona.

18-year old LHP Caden Vire is also seeing his first action since June 30th in this game, along with OF Luis Medina returning after missing a few games this week and 9th round pick Tayden Hall getting his first start at catcher in organization.

Meanwhile, it seems a little odd that 4th round pick C Matthew Wood is missing his 2nd consecutive game. Perhaps his early exit in the 3rd inning on Thursday wasn’t pre-planned. SS Daniel Guilarte and C Darlin Lora also continue to miss time.

In your daily reminder that every single player in the organization is a prospect, 19-year old 1B Jesus Parra (.718 season OPS) has a homer and a double, while 20-year old OF/INF Kaylan Nicasia (.817 season OPS) smacked a grand slam. Both play for ACL Brewers Gold.

19-year old Jace Avina (1.067 OPS in 149 ACL plate appearances) makes his Low-A debut, manning center field for the Mudcats at home against Kannapolis with the series tied 2-2. RHP Alexander Cornielle (3.72 season ERA) is on the hill:

Timber Rattler manager Joe Ayrault rolls out the same starting 9 as yesterday, this time in support of RHP Zach Mort (4.53 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 55 2/3 innings) as they lead the road series in Quad Cities 3-1. CF Jackson Chourio has reached base safely in 9 of 10 games since his promotion (with hits in 8 of 10 games):

Nicasia has caught my eye several times of late. I'm loving what I'm seeing and, hey, grand salamis always taste good!

Given what I've seen this season to date, I can verify a thought that has never crossed my mind:

"Hey, let's drop Areinamo down to the 7th spot." LOL. Victor Estevez must have grand designs for today's line-up card. I'd personally like to see 'Mr On-Base' Zach Raabe get some play in the 1-2 slots given his unique propensity to take walks.

23-year old LHP Robert Gasser (4.18 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, whopping 11.5 K/9 in High-A) makes his Brewers’ organizational and AA debut, as Biloxi aims for a 4-1 series advantage in Mississippi. His battery-mate is 26-year old C Brent Diaz, who’s surprised with an .820 OPS in 156 AA plate appearances this year:

Major league RHP Adrian Houser gets a rehab start for Nashville, which is up 3-1 in this week’s series in Norfolk. Leadoff LF Sal Frelick has multiple hits (9-for-19) in all 4 games since his promotion to AAA:

I think we’ll see more of this (against righty starters), as Perez steps into a leadership role and is encouraged to improve his contact and OBP rates.

Bello, Cipion, Chourio and E. Garcia have all been promoted, with Quero and Raabe likely to follow shortly (while Mendez is out injured). It’s time for Perez, Chirinos and Vargas to step up.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Chirinos' work this past week and I really hope he keeps it up. He has such a nice build for a 1B transition - the results have been erratic. It feels like Vargas' season got away from him early and I hope he can build some momentum to close this year. I'm all for giving Perez more opportunities - he's given us glimpses all year. As always, I like your thoughts!

AND just like that:

Jace Avina just smacked his first home run of his Low-A career. YES SIR! A two-run jack scoring OF Luis Castillo. Oh sweet sweet Jace! I should add: this was a 2-out jack to extend the lead to 5-0. Sorry, I got a little excited and was too busy hooting and hollering.

RHP Alexander Cornielle is doing his darndest to validate entering a lot of our Top 30's. He's dealing today. Through 6 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 8 K (90 pitches - maybe he trots out to start the 7th tho I imagine his night is finished). You just have to love what we're seeing from this young man. He's gotten better as the season has progressed and he is staking his claim as the next Mudcat Ace. Let's go, young man!

@damuelle (my goodness that leg-kick is something. Talk about balance):

AND, our first glimpse at DSL stalwart RHP Jeral Vizcaino (we've both noted his excellence of late):

INF Jadher Areinamo is quickly turning into one of my favorite prospects. He just took an 0-2 count and smacked a single to center field. He's 2-for-3 on his afternoon so far. This is just a really really solid player with a bright future. One of my pleasant surprises of 2022. He has taken his brief cup of coffee in Wisconsin and converting that into wisdom and output. Just wonderful stuff.

RHP Adrian Houser is indeed starting for Nashville tonight. His first pitching of any kind since June 30th. His first pitch was straight into the dirt. After working ahead 1-2 he fell to a 3-2 count and ultimately gave up a seeing-eye single between Reyes and Turang into the right center field grass.

It's been real Jackson, but Jace Avina is my new #1 prospect.  ?

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

25 pitches in his first inning but all in all it was successful after a couple full count batters. Houser gets a weak pop up to Turang at shortstop, a nice K on an extremely small batter, and the shallow pop up to a charging Joey Wiemer who forcefully called off a back-pedaling Pablo Reyes. It's on the second inning and it's 0-0.

Wiemer just absolutely roped an rbi double to the wall in right. A fantastic swing and oppo smash. Why was it an rbi double? Well, because the insanely fast Garrett Mitchell was on first base after an extremely disciplined 3-2 walk. Glorious nectar!
