So, we’ve now been shut out ten times this season in 114 games.

Looking back the Hader trade will be the line in the sand that everyone points to but it shouldn't be. This team can't hit or score runs against decent pitching. It wouldn't matter who your closer is when you can't get a lead.

It may prove to be. But for all the wrong reasons.

I don’t know how the team would look, but we’d have been better able to address the issues that are just hamstringing us now.

This franchise simply cannot drop big bucks on one player. I understand the desire to have that superstar, but we don’t have the finances to push all our chips to the middle on one player; when it doesn’t work out, the result is disastrous. Not only does that contract become an albatross when the player underperforms, it prevents the team from making any other consequential moves, save for trading one of your blue chip pieces for prospects.

The Brewers have to draft and develop well, and use free agency to fill holes. They had the right idea with stressing pitching and defense (though the defense had been atrocious this year). But they’ve manifestly ignored hitting in the process. This team needed some sort of impact bat to spark the offense, and they got nobody.

Our reality is that we’re basically going to have to pick good pitchers, develop them, control them as long as possible, and then watch them leave for other cities and collect the. Big paychecks. If ownership is unwilling to compete with the top annual salaries each year, we need to approach roster building in a different way, and we need to stick with it.

If you don't put up 10 runs on a guy with a 1 era over the last month, the brewers fans will cry. Noted...

I don’t think that’s true, but when they don’t put up a total of 10 runs in 5 games (not counting runs aided by free runners in extra innings) the fans aren’t likely to be happy.

These last 4 games are a pretty good preview of what I would expect from the Brewers offense in a playoff series. 5 runs in 4 games, plus 2 in extra innings if the pitching can get a game there. Basically a repeat of last year’s Braves series.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

It's admittedly strange, but the thing that hit me late in the game was that the LA offense tonite resembled ours recently. Two solo HRs. Except one of them was with a man on because Milner got ahead of a hitter then made no quality pitches, and Adames gifted them one in the fifth. I know what everyone will shout from the rooftops, that it makes no difference when you can't score. But to me, when the foundation you build success on isn't there, you aren't giving yourself much of a chance.

Lots of defense & athleticism to choose from in the future regarding the OF. It's going to be interesting to see where Yelich fits in, because he pretty much HAS to fit in somewhere. That throw in the fifth.........I know he has a bad arm, but my goodness.

Good post. But we don't know what we needed to give up to pick up said bat. Until we know that, and we probably never will, it's tough to criticize. And in the last paragraph I think "unable" fits better than unwilling.

Everything else I agree 100%.

The question has to be soon if Yelich can't hit leadoff since he's 0-27 where do you hit him next? Maybe hit him 2 and let Wong leadoff again. Willie should probably hitting 5-6.

Brewers announcers have taken a step back this year just like the club.

Jeff Levering has always been a bozo, and Josh Mauer is on that trajectory. Bill Schroeder is boring, and yeah, seems to be coasting. Lane Grindle is not really indistinguishable from Levering or Mauer

Right! Everybody remembers the botched onside kick that cost the Packers the NFC title game in 2014, but hardly anyone recalls if they don’t get burned for a touchdown on a fake field goal the onside kick wouldn’t have mattered.

That makes some sense vs RHP, but they'll never start a batting order with two lefties vs LHP. Adames just needs to figure out how to be more consistent. He's not getting benched, and the Ks are killing the team regardless of where he hits. The approach has changed somewhat; he's trying to go the other way. He's just had a bad season up to this point.

Urias is one of the best pitchers in baseball and people are expecting the Brewers to light him up.

We had our chances but couldn't take advantage.  IF we find a way to get into the post season most of the pitchers we'll face will be very good/great so you HAVE to find a way to score without hitting dingers.

For the sake of discussion. If the team craters down the stretch and finishes 81-81 what should they do in the offseason?

I personally would like to see some drastic roster and management changes.

But try to keep the pitching.  If it wasn't for that bunch we'd be battling the Pirates for last place...
