But that isn't always true when you look at results. If I'm playing, yeah, I'd rather hit the ball hard every time. It often pays off. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it's detrimental.

It's not that weird. If a weakly hit ball goes for a hit, and a sharply hit ball goes for an out, it was due to WHERE the ball was hit, not that it was weakly or sharply hit. your odds improve if you hit the ball sharply..
