In 74 2021 games with Biloxi, 2016 31st round OF/1B Ryan Aguilar was abysmal, .146/.286/.249, leading to his mid-August release.

Picked up in December by the Angels, the soon-to-be 28-year-old, playing in the same league, is at .277/.423/.506 over 87 games, and was just named the Southern League Player of the Week.

Not that he's pushing Mike Trout aside, and there's the whole age thing, but happy for Ryan, to be sure.

Thank you for starting this thread. I guess RHP Alexis Ramirez's (part of C Alex Jackson - INF Hayden Cantrelle trade) retirement can be posted here.

Ramirez last saw the mound in 2019 in Maryvale. Injuries stink. Shoulder surgery in November of 2021 the latest for Ramirez.

Man, this Mark Mathias news makes me SO happy. He’s such a likable athlete and was always a joy to watch in Nashville. Considering he was traded on the heels of the birth of his first child, this is just so great.

Circling back to some of the early season young men who were sent elsewhere as the Brewers scrambled to address roster issues...

The Victor Caritini Trade:

  • INF/OF Korry Howell: Howell was moved to San Diego's 60-Day IL July 23rd. He spent the entirety of his season manning all sorts of positions (you might imagine) for the Padres' Double-A affiliate in the San Antonio Missions. I would say, all in all, despite the injury, Howell and the Padres would see his 2022 as a successful debut with the new organization: 146 AB/ 0.253 BA/ 0.876 OPS/ 12 SB/ 1 CS/ 8 2B/ 4 3B/ 6 HR/ 37 R/ 20 RBI/ 25 BB/ 52 K
  • Brett Sullivan: Although, Sullivan spent an extremely short period of time with the Brewers (signing as another of the many ML FA's in 2021), he proved to be valued as a trade piece. Sullivan has turned in his most productive offensive season, one could easily argue, since 2016-2017 when he bounced between High-A and Double-A. His 2022 offensive numbers read: 338 AB/ 0.805 OPS/ 3 SB/ 0 CS/ 26 2B/ 4 3B/ 8 HR/ 56 R/ 63 RBI/ 27 BB/ 52 K (Defensively: 36 SB/ 16 CS/ 0.981 F%). Sullivan has also filled in semi-regularly as a 3B and a LF.

Tampa AAA affiliate Durham has gotten the good version of LHP Angel Perdomo since claiming him on July 19th: 0.54 ERA with 27 Ks and 4 BBs in 16 2/3 IP.

They even slipped him through waivers on August 4th despite me hoping we’d try a little claim-DFA-outright scheme. Well done to Angel.

It would appear David Dahl hasn't quite gotten things going in Rochester (Nationals Triple-A affiliate) since his release from the Sounds. It certainly doesn't appear he's playing poorly - it seems to me, by basic box score glancing, he's adjusting to a new setting much like he adjusted to Nashville early in the season. It's simply taking a bit longer. Dahl's 'breakout' with the Sounds came on the heels of a 3-for-4 outing 35 or so AB's in.

Currently, for Rochester he's played in a mere 18 games:

67 AB/ 0.224 BA/ 0.647 OPS/ 10 R/ 10 RBI/ 5 2B/ 1 HR/ 8 BB/ 22 K/ 1 SB/ 0 CS

It's worse than you thought, as he opted out of that Rochester contract as well. I imagine he's figuring out a new plan for 2023 now: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/08/david-dahl-opts-out-of-minor-league-deal-with-nationals.html

love that I didn't even consider the 2 week discrepancy in his last reported stat line ?. Hello, Monday!

I would also imagine there might be some aspect of the drop-off in surroundings. All I ever hear about playing in Nashville is  it's a class act unlike most (if not all) Minor League experiences. They truly are setting up to be a future Big League city. And, man, they are going to sell out with ease. Incredible baseball town. And, then, beyond that in the purely speculation realm I'd have to imagine the fact he has a youngster; a wife; and a family (and I believe their home base is in Scottsdale, AZ)...it was simply more appealing to reset and prepare for the future with his loved ones.

OF Abraham Almonte took his act to the Red Sox Triple-A affiliate in Worcester after the Brewers traded him for cash considerations and, it would appear, he is actually mashing at a higher clip - which, if you consider what he was doing in Nashville is fairly absurd.

26 G/ 93 AB/ 23 R/ 21 RBI/ 3 2B/ 1 3B/ 7 HR/ 25 BB/ 25 K/ 4 SB/ 2 CS/ 0.290 BA/ 1.015 OPS

Just saw that Nash Walters was put on the Angels 40 man. Any idea why they would do that and waste an option when they could have just added him after the season?

I’m assuming they’ll call him up to MLB before he spends 20 days and thus burns his first option year. But I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

OF Abraham Almonte finally gets his promotion back to the majors after having a .951 OPS though 360 plate appearances in the International League. 61 BB / 77 K ratio is also solid. Switch hitter. Congrats to him. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/09/red-sox-to-select-abraham-almonte.html

That's awesome. Well deserved! He has had a phenomenal offensive Minor League season. I hope he gets some run as their DH and gets hot late here.

He pitched an inning on 9/7 for Salt Lake (Angels Triple-A affiliate) against Reno and gave up a hit but grabbed a Save. I really hope he can take that incredible run in Biloxi and run with it to the MLB level. It's all there for him at present.
