Probably the biggest plus personnel-wise was to get several snaps for Myles Burkett. Regardless of the competition (which was obviously weak) it was impressive for his first extended playing time. Was given a little bit of everything, even a bootleg where he showed nice moxie throwing the ball in the turf when there was nothing there. Threw with confidence & looked like he belonged. I'm sure there would be ugly moments if he had to take the helm in a conference game, but nice poise for a kid who was competing against Oak Creek & Racine Horlick at this time last year.

Yeah, Burkett looked natural out there. Hill didn't really. Big kid, but looked really stiff.

I did think that Mertz looked good out there.  Yes, against a bad team, but after the first couple of drives, he looked very accurate - both the wide open throws and the contested throws (dropping passes in zones and up the seam).  Seems like PC would be wise to get a couple easy tosses early in the game to get Mertz going.  But his accuracy does look like it is miles ahead of this time last year.   Even his pick was a tipped ball in a tight window, so I'm not worried about that.

Big, big test coming with Ohio St though...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."
