AA Biloxi was rained out yesterday, so starts their home series against Angels’ affiliate Rocket City today. RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (1.99 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 13.9 K/9 in 22.2 IP) makes his 6th start of the season. 3B Tyler Black (.276 AVG, .980 OPS in 105 PAs) continues to power the offense.

Hoping for a big week from Chourio.  He's due.  That would surely lift my baseball spirits after a dreadful week last week with the Brewers.

I see your three Aces and I show you my two of clubs, five of hearts, and a ten of diamonds

1) This is Joe Gray Jr's first time playing in his native Hattiesburg, Mississippi in over 2,000 days. Wishing him a riveting performance after he finally got that elusive first knock (a double) late in his last series versus Montgomery.

2) Timber Rattlers change their fortunes into a rare and unexpected winning streak.

3) INF Luke Adams breaks out of his ongoing mini-slump. And C Matt Wood is sent North to Wisconsin to give the jolt the club is sorely needing.

Now Warren with a bomb! Three runs come in, that was huge!

The first base ump is being a bit weird, getting chased around the bases and told to get off the field, slightly odd

Getting slightly feisty here

Chourio looks like he just isn't picking the pitch out of the hand at all, identifying breaking pitches should come with time, but a high hanging slider he swung way through, and then swung down and off the plate next pitch. Kinda ugly

Quero lined out to short at 105mph after a Chourio walk and steal, and Tyler Black hits a missile to right field, sixth homer of the year

Black’s power is moving him into untouchable territory as a prospect. This is huge for the future of the team. Power is the one area with the positional aspect of the farm that can use strengthening, so adding a power bat to Chourio & Wiemer gives more balance to the ‘25/‘26 lineup.

I didn't actually see it as the camera was for some reason just on the pitcher, but it was loud

Quero with another 106mph lineout, this time to center field. Really unlucky but quality contact being made

He's struggled just like this for weeks. Essentially, if we are being constructively honest, since his two HR game versus Pensacola and RHP Esteury Ruiz. He needs to be better at the plate. It's that simple. And, we hope it comes with experience and hard work but he is most definitely not hitting like the #1 prospect in all of baseball. That comes with performance and, in Double-A, it just hasn't come YET.

This just in: RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez is still really really good. What a find and what a development in the past year plus.

I think we might have ourselves a nice post-Burnes/Woodruff rotation arm. Huge for the future of this team.

I personally have a hard time denying how utterly impactful the surprise WBC start he had for Nicaragua was/is. It proved, then and there (imho, of course), he was ready to take the reins as the true Brewers Minor League Ace. He is putting the proverbial proof in the pudding.

Now if we can just get Ashby healthy and doing a better job of finishing-off hitters, along with Gasser improving his command, we could have quite the foursome with FF.

And Small consistently throwing strikes along with improving his SL so he can join the foursome in the rotation.

He's holding his own as a 19 year old in AA but it also feels like he's teetering on the edge of really struggling.  We'll see which direction he goes throughout the year.

RHP Cam Robinson sure feels comfy in Double-A. Hopefully, he can use this as a springboard to get back his zone in Nashville. So far the International League has been a safe he can't quite crack.

A reminder of two ongoing on-base streaks in Carolina and Nashville, respectively:

Tune in tonight to see if these streaks keep streakin'!

The AAA Sounds lead their home series against Gwinnett 1-0 and have RHP Janson Junk 1.75 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 7.0 K/9 in 25.2 AAA IP) starting tonight. In addition to the Toro and Singleton on-base streaks, 2B Andruw Monasterio has a 7-game hitting streak.

That's the thing about Chourio. AA. 19. And like you said, holding his own. Don't know how long into the season it takes, but I expect him to blaze at some point.

Not a killer given the OF talent in the organization, but still disappointing to see Grays' struggles.

Wood being bumped to high-A is interesting.

The High-A Timber Rattlers trail the Cubs 1-0 in their home series. RHP Stiven Cruz looks to bounce back from his worst outing (1.1 IP, 7 ER). C Darrien Miller has a 6-game hitting streak.

The Low-A Mudcats need a home win against Fredericksburg to tie the series 1-1. RHP Patricio Aquino (1.96 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 9.8 K/9 in 18.1 IP) makes his 6th start of 2023. 2B Daniel Guilarte is 4th in the 12-team Carolina League in stolen bases, tied for 6th in hits.

1 - Adams - 1B
2 - Guilarte - 2B
3 - Lara - CF
4 - Wood - C
5 - Barrios - SS
6 - Nicasia - RF
7 - Avina - DH
8 - Perez - LF
9 - Areinamo - 3B
X - Aquino - P

INF Jadher Areinamo just missed a HR down the LF line by about 6'. That's a double high off those wild n wooly Zebulon walls. It was a big non-HR as Luke Adams struck out on 3 pitches to leave him stranded on 2B. I'm cry. Mudcats trail 1-0 into the top of the 4th.

RHP Patricio Aquino just gave up a deep two-out run-scoring triple to the perfect alley in right center where the ball somehow snuck past the sprinting CF Luis Lara. 2-0 Fredericksburg. We'll head to the bottom of the fourth as Aquino gets the weak liner one-hopped to Barrios at SS who fires to Adams at 1B.
