Sorry in advance if there is another thread on this topic, but can anyone provide some names for some of the guys we should keep an eye on this summer - both in the DSL and the ACL?

Taking a quick look at the MLB Pipeline Top 30 prospects list, I see some of the more obvious names:

Dylan O'Rae

Yophrey Rodriguez

Kevin Ereu

Filippo Di Turi

But, are there some other names that we should keep an eye on besides these guys in our Top 30?

As a person who admittedly places zero emphasis or focus on Top 30 lists, I would simply recommend casually following our reports and/or the scoreboard.

The darling of last summer's DSL was 1B/OF Yeison Perez. LHP Osbriel Mogollon turned heads quite a bit. Both are ACL now but it's a new season. Entirely new storylines. New faces. We'll habe to see how it shakes out.

When I looked earlier today, there were active box scores for 23 of today's 25 DSL games, with only the Brewers' games showing no lineups or other data.

Now, DSL Brewers-1's game is showing and they trail 2-1 in the 8th inning, despite outhitting the Athletics 8-to-3 and starting 18-year old LHP Anthony Flores essentially being perfect through 4 innings: 1-of-12 batters reached base on an error and he was promptly picked off. Flores K'd 8 of the 12 hitters he faced.

Opening Day DSL Brewers-1 Lineup:

  1. Joan Gutierrez - 2B (first year player)
  2. Kevin Ereu - SS (first year player)
  3. Yophery Rodriguez - CF (first year player)
  4. Pedro Tovar - RF (first year player)
  5. Gery Holguin - 1B
  6. Yannic Walthier - C (first year player)
  7. Idalberto Santiesteban - LF (first year player)
  8. Irving Igualas - DH
  9. Luiyin Alastre - 3B (first year player)

X - Anthony Flores - P

And now the box score is active for DSL Brewers-2's opening game, with the squad leading the Braves 9-3 in the top of the 6th inning and 17-year old RHP Bryan Rivera getting the start.

Opening Day DSL Brewers-2 Lineup:

  1. Filippo Di Turi - SS (first year player)
  2. Antony Gomez - CF (first year player)
  3. Roderick Flores - 2B (first year player)
  4. Eric Martinez - C
  5. Ramon Moreno - RF (first year player)
  6. Fabricio Valera - LF
  7. Luis Lameda - 3B (first year player)
  8. Pedro Ibarguen - DH (first year player)
  9. Smarlin Espinal - 1B (first year player)

X - Bryan Rivera - P

Unless I am mistaken, Flores had some hype immediately after signing but struggled a bit last year. Hopefully he can keep this dominance going. There were a few pitchers who flashed, albeit inconsistently last year who didn’t get a stateside spot. Hopefully Flores, Corniel, Torres, etc., break out this year.

17-year-old Dominican CF Antony Gomez of the DSL Brewers 2 (signed January, 2023) had 4 SB today. Yes, that's right. Four. Yowza. 1-for-3, 2 BB, 1 K, 2 RBI. Did I mention 4 SB?

Great opening day in the DSL! 2-0. Shutdown pitching for the DSL 1 and the DSL 2 win a high-scoring affair, 11-7. You love to see it. In that DSL 1 17 K pitching mow down, we also see November 2022 signee, 18-year-old Cuban OF Idalberto Santiesteban, had a 4-for-4 opening day with a double and a run scored.

Both the DSL 1 and DSL 2 squads struggled with RISP: a combined 6-for-31. Something to work on moving forward but fantastic to have so many opportunities off the bat.

I think, at this juncture, what we've known about him coming into the 2022 season is he was a lefty purported to have a fairly nasty curve. However, as we all know, it's tough to get any read until we can see them beyond the ACL. He did receive a $50K bonus - the 9th highest signing bonus overall but highest of the pitchers in the Brewers 2022 class.

One name to keep an eye on is RHP Eric Prado signed out of Mexico (believe he is on DSL Brewers 1). Brewers signed him for $130,000 which is a pretty huge amount for the Brewers to give a pitcher.

Back in January just after the Int'l Signings were announced, the Brewers manager of international scouting and player personnel James Armstrong had this to say on the all RHP (13 in total) pitching class:

Quote

"Something that stands out from this group is that the pitching has been important to us," Armstrong said. "The pitchers don't get as much media coverage on these [prospect] lists [which] are dominated by position players. But we have pitchers from Nicaragua, Venezuela, Mexico, and in this group they really stand out for us. It's a good group of young pitching that we can project on."

Shiver me timbers, I am going back through the DSL Game Logs. Check out what I'm looking at for talk of the town, LHP Anthony FLores, in the inaugural frame of his and the Brewers DSL 1 season. We have a possible 2023 debut immaculate inning:

Potentially had an immaculate inning. We can't see the AB data so there possibly could have been a foul ball.

Well, that's not as fun! 😅 I adjusted my post to reflect this unknown. Thanks for the reminder.

I come bearing even worse news now. In the play by play for those games they don't show any balls besides wild pitches. So there very possibly could have been balls as well. We know for certain that he struck out the side though!

I was just about to type this. LOL. SO many three pitch strikeouts!🤣

Santiesteban is the one that stands out, already with a great showing today in his pro debut.  Luis Lameda and Luiyin Alastre have turned heads in the organization, so I’ve heard.  Eric Martinez kind of flies under the radar, but has some thump in his bat.  Eric Prado, already mentioned I know, and Pedro Quintana are pitching prospect that you should keep tabs on.  Quintana has been in the organization for a couple of years since Mets trade, but is finally healthy and ready to make his professional debut I believe.

Scratch Torres from my last post. It appears he earned a spot stateside after all. Also, it might be a typo, because ACL, but Ferrer is listed among the potential pitchers in the game box.

Also, Will Childers.

Yeison Perez alert:

Just tuned in. AND, he just smashed a solo shot two out ding dong to pull the ACL Crew within 3-2.

 Muh man!

INF Jhonny Severino is having a nice first game stateside:

2-for-3, 1 2B, 1 R (just scored)

And, OF Reidy Mercado has a three-bagger and two OF assists - one at 3B and one at Home. Solid effort in CF tonight!

ACL Crew trail 4-3 in the 6th. One down. INF Juan Baez stands on 1B after driving in Severino with a groundball poke into CF. Scratch that, Baez is now on 2B after C Satchell Norman just took a free pass. Two men on. 1 down.

Y'all...

Yeison Perez just cleared the bases with a deep triple. It's 7-4 Crew.

I'm just sayin' : They may want to consider getting him out of the 9-Hole in future games. This is the exact same type of production he was giving us from the start in the DSL last season before he came up injured. What. A. Debut.

The bats are good call outs. Joan Gutierrez is a name to watch as well. Reece Walling is so interesting to me, just because he was an UDFA, but out of high school. Such an interesting path to take. Nice looking swing though and a strong dude for his age.

Was going to add Childers as a name to watch, but he was apparently just added to the Carolina roster this morning. Jesus Rivero had an awful high amount of walks last year, but he has some of the better stuff in the lower levels and generated a ton of whiffs and strikeouts last year. He's one I will be keeping a close eye on, to see if he can curb some of the command issues.

A couple other arms to note, Manuel Rodriguez has a lot of the spin characteristics teams are looking for, but will need to add velocity (a mid to high 80's guy right now). Brailin Rodriguez reached Carolina as a young 19 year old in 2021,  but missed all of last season due to injury. Anfernny Reyes had great surface level results last year with an ERA of 1.54 in 46.2 IP in the DSL, struck out more than a batter an inning.
