Fri. 6/9 - The Rookie Clubs Are 8-1 Entering Play Friday (And DSL 1 Beat DSL 2 for Only Loss)

Sometimes the key to winning in the DSL is having a pitcher that can find the strike zone. Brewers 2 take the lead in the seventh despite being no hit because they have drawn 11 walks and gotten hit three times compared to 0 and 0 so far for Brewers pitchers.

Ramon Moreno on DSL Brewers 2 currently 0-0 with 5 BB. Back to back days the Brewers DSL teams have a guy with 5 BB.

Both contests have gone down to the wire - DSL Uno are in Extras and Florimon is having a very rough go of it: after a wild pitch scored the second Guardians run of the inning, he walked two to score the third run and then surrendered a pop fly sacrifice. Suddenly the Uno trail Nueve-a-Cinco. INF Kevin Ereu having a fantastic day. He is certainly fitting the bill early for such a high signing bonus.

The DSL Dos are being outhit 14-2 and are tied in the bottom of the 9th frame 5-5. Walk update: Guardians have walked 14. Dos have walked 1. 😁

The Timber Rattlers can take a 4th straight contest in West Michigan with a victory tonight, sending 21-year old RHP Stiven Cruz to the mound. Cruz is coming off of two decent outings (combined 10 IP, 4 R, 7 Ks). C Matt Wood has a 6-game hitting streak, lifting his High-A average to .296.

The AA Shuckers will try to win a 3rd straight game in Mississippi. The team has the youngest average position player age (22.5) in the league, but is first in walks and stolen bases, and 2nd-best in not striking out. RHP TJ Shook (3.71 ERA in 26.2 IP) makes his 2nd start (10th appearance).

Low-A Carolina needs to snap a 3-game skid at home against Fayetteville, so turns to solid RHP Patricio Aquino (2.39 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 26.1 IP) tonight. DH/1B Jesus Parra has a 6-game hitting streak.

SS Brice Turang returns to Nashville for his first game at this level since the 2022 AAA playoffs. The team is tied 2-2 in this week’s series in Jacksonville, with RHP Janson Junk (4.27 ERA in 52.2 IP) getting tonight’s start against rehabbing Major Leaguer Trevor Rogers.

Rattlers are facing Tarik Skubal on a rehab assignment today. Very tough ask for the young guys in A+. Robert Moore struck out on 3 pitches. Wood hit a first pitch single on a grounder down the LF line. Joe Gray Jr got down 0-2 then was hit by a FB on the elbow. Alex Hall hit a FB to the track in left-center. Eduardo Garcia battled a bit but struck out in 6 pitches.

Devanney at 1B. I realize they need to make room for Brosseau & Turang on the left side, but still interesting.

Luke Adams just flashed a cannon arm throwing from basically the edge of the grass right on the line to get the runner at 1st.

Brutal game for Stiven Cruz currently at 3 IP, 10 H, 7 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO with 4 HR given up.

One of the more disappointing seasons in the system. Given what we saw last year after his call-up, I don't think anyone saw this regression. A real bummer season so far.

RHP Patricio Aquino is putting together a heck of a debut season in affiliated ball. He's improving on several meaningful categories in his step up from the ACL. A very notable early-going given he just turned 20 years old 5/1.

He is such an absurd athlete given his size and frame. He made two grabs at 1B earlier this season that absolutely shocked me. He has such an enticing package of tools. If he could get even a modest bump up from his 0.215 BABIP in the second half we are definitely looking at a break-out candidate. 35 BB : 39 K to boot. Excellent gloves at both 3B and 1B - can play LF in a pinch. Very good and accurate arm as you saw. Power. Speed. Incredible foundation to work with.

How is Nashville doing these days.  Is it work going to see them tomorrow night?

They are playing a double header tomorrow. Believe it's single ticket double header so you could get 14 innings of baseball for the cost of 9.

Yeah, weather should be a bit better tomorrow but Sunday is going to be as iffy as today.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

June 10 and I’m still waiting for that big breakout game from Chourio where he goes something like 4-5 with a homerun, couple doubles and 5 RBI’s.

I'm guessing all of us are. Weirdly, what has given me some hope, considering his pedestrian batting line, is that Zarr and others have noted his being somewhat discombobulated. If accurate, one would think that once he "gets right," we'll see a hot week or two that puts him right where we want him.
