Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "It's a special episode this week, looking at the future of the Brewers organization. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discuss Curt's top 10 prospects right now, starting of course with Jackson Chourio and Sal Frelick but also other names you won't want to forget: Jacob Misiorowski, Tyler Black, Jeferson Quero, Robert Gasser, Abner Uribe and more. Plus some players who might be just outside the top 10, including a promising 17-year-old and a player serving as both a pitcher and position player at Class A Carolina. What about the No. 1 pick in 2022, Eric Brown Jr.? How about two other teenagers hitting the ball well at Carolina, Luis Lara and Luke Adams?"

17-year old $1.4 million international free signing SS Kevin Ereu is back atop DSL Brewers-1's lineup after missing 2 weeks. He led off today's game with a double and scored on a wild pitch.

Well, Cerveceros Dos were leading 3-0 heading to the 6th. They now trail 9-7? Yowza. We are in the 9th and final frame.

Meanwhile, the Uno trail the Braves 10-2 late. I see it is that kind of Monday? Booooo.😂

Luis Castillo making his 2023 debut tonight in AZ.

Hendry Mendez and Tayden Hall also back in the lineup after injury absences.

That is a beautiful beautiful thing. Excited to look into the box score and the game logs. Just about to start crafting my Monday report.

The ACL Crew have now lost five straight games by a combined nine total runs. They are done in by a rough inning from LHP Anferrny Reyes after a 1-1 game got away in the 7th frame. Rough Monday for the rookie squads. 0-3 mark.

Edgardo Ordonez with his first stateside bomb and two BBs.

Keep it going!!

I am not kidding: I just deleted a mention of you in my article. It read: "Somewhere in a distant desert canyon the voice of @sveumrulesscreams out: 'Get this man more playing time!'" He continues to impress. It's really fun having such an intriguing bat from the left side of the dish. I really want to see him, well, actually catch a game!😂

It's easy enough to spot the young international signings who are position players who have plus tools in one area or another...or who are just producing, but what about the young arms?

Who should we be watching in the DSL or Rookie ball?

Are do we just have guys with some feel for pitching and given the longshot it is to hit on a pitcher, are we just adding guys hoping that we find someone who may have some growth left, who may add 3-4+ MPH and become something to be excited about?

Remind me about Wily Peralta? I don't think we signed him throwing in the upper 90s, so when did his velo tick up?

For DSL arms I pretty much just keep an eye on age, K/BB ratio and what kind of role or promotion schedule the development staff has lined up for them to read between the lines.

Don’t really start to get more detailed reports on stuff or footage until they get to the AZ or Carolina.

Right, I just thought maybe someone had a bit more. I understand why it's the rare exception you'd spend on a 16 year old arm. HS prep arms are risky enough, but this is like drafting a Soph based on how you scouted him as a Freshmen.

I would like to see the Brewers target a few high ceiling arms in this upcoming draft. College arms are unlikely to fall(those with the upside we're targeting). Waldrep, Sykora...a College arm and a prep arm would be ideal if they fell. See if we can finally get the pitching and hitting to lineup.

Side note-Anyone see the suggestion on how the Yankees should "break the MLB draft?" In this loaded class, just go all in, don't worry about the bonus pool.

The theory being, take a team with a relatively small pool, one that won't likely be picking high the next 2 years(which would lessen the value)...take a draft that's considered deep(this being one of the deeper ones) and then just take those high end prospects who drop. Spending 20M, you lose your 1st and 2nds the next 2 years, but you get that elite talent in your system quicker, you just take BPA. Pay the penalty and just load up.

It's an interesting idea. Not one I'd advocate for the Brewers. One, they have a large pool, 2, they could very likely be picking top 10 in either of the next two years(particularly with the new lottery).

Anyway, interesting idea...probably the wrong place to put it.

We usually don’t spend much on international free agent pitchers or get more than a few snippets of details on them, which means we’re forced to wait until they’re moved to ACL ball to get excited.

That’s how it was with RHP Manuel Rodriguez last year, who notched a few decent outings last year as a 16-year old in the DSL, but we couldn’t really get excited until he was announced as part of Extended Spring Training in May this year, signaling he’d be coming state-side. Now he’s the only 17-year old on the ACL roster, which is awesome considering he’s a pitcher.

That all said, there was a nugget in January that new signing 17-year old RHP Eric Prado throws 94mph and he’s gone out and put up decent numbers in his first 3 games (2 starts).

So, for me at least, those are the two players I’m most intrigued by. After that, I’d go back to the ACL and note Daniel Corniel (just 18) and LHP Osbriel Mogollon (19 with results), while hoping a few other players raise eyebrows.

I’d like to add LHP Anfernny Reyes (19), but last year’s WHIP (1.479 in DSL) and this year’s short stints (2.0 IP/game) give me pause - either the Brewers stretch him out to show he’s a priority arm or we may need to wait until 2024 Low-A bullpen work. RHP Gerson Calzadilla is also getting some results early on in 2023, but he’s already 20 and has a low K rate (5.9), so we’ll have to wait to see what he can do in Low-A ball.
