No pitcher in the system deserves an opportunity more than Clayton Andrews in 2023. He has been the most consistent bullpen arm in a very deep Sounds bullpen. He has filled numerous roles in various spots at various times. We obviously don't know how this works out facing MLB caliber hitters for the first time in a professional setting but I can confidently state: he should have been called up over a month ago if we're going off of performance and 'stuff'.

What to look out for?

  • Deadly change-up. Has been a Plus pitch since his career began
  • A heater that hits 95-96 mph regularly - which is quite wild when you see his diminutive stature
  • nasty slider IF he leans into it - the spin on this pitch and the movement has been an elite MLB pitch since pitch 1 of 2023. But, it's still being harnessed. We are talking + 3,000 spin with elite horizontal and vertical movement
  • He is not a Loogy - he will attack lefties and righties because his stuff just plays. For example, he has faced more righties in 2023: 22 2/3 IP total vs RHB's. 89 BF11 H. 0.90 WHIP, 28 K, 11 BB, 1 HR.

Again, he has been ELITE in 2023. I really really hope he takes this and runs with it. It is well well deserved.

Oh wow, I didn’t expect them to actually DFA Bush even though I wanted them to do it.

After Counsell's comments last night, a Bush DFA felt like the only option. I don't think I have ever seen a pointed negative comment like that directly towards a player before.

How funny/sad would it be if some team about to play a series against the Brewers claims LHP Pannone and starts him against us?

As it stands, I hope he scales through and voluntarily accepts an assignment back to AAA, similar to Alex Claudio earlier this year.

I actually expected Bush to go but not Pannone. He wasn't any great shakes but wasn't horrible either. In his case it might be more of a "get a fresh arm up here" thing. I thought he would stick around until Justin Wilson was ready.

Joseph, thanks for the thumbnail on Andrews. Looking forward to his debut .Maybe a 5th bench player? Can he still rake?😄

I would give (and I did, by golly) sad face here.

Pannone didn't blow the socks off in his opening outing but, as we know, those first outings can have a lot of nerves and/or bad luck. He's been a clear breadwinner as the Sounds most consistent starter (especially at the Home ballpark where he's been fantastic) and I would love for him to stick and keep pushing while simultaneously possibly leading that starting group toward a Playoff push. I certainly wouldn't begrudge him if he latched on as a claim or a FA signee with a team he feels he has a better 2nd opportunity with (depending on the convo had when DFA'd, obviously). But, also, to your point about facing the Brewers: we both know he would likely go perform a line like 6 IP, 3 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 0 ER in a shutout. Ugh.

I believe he would do quite well if he was facing Milwaukee’s offense 😂

Hopefully, he will do equally well against other MLB opponents

I’m thrilled to see him pitch in the big leagues

I’m equally happy to see Bush DFA’d - it was (past) time

I’m exactly the same size as Clayton Andrews (actually 10 lbs lighter - but the same height) … so he immediately becomes my “favorite” Brewers player 🤓

I’m surprised that you are surprised - he’s been horrid as a Brewer

Hope you are fully recovered from that nasty stomach bug

Reminds me of something totally inane but slightly related. Years ago I acquired a full uniform worn by Eric Young (Sr) in a Turn Back the Clock game. The entire thing fit me perfectly. I still haven't decided what to think of that.

Nah, still fighting it off. My patience is wearing pretty thin on this whole stomach sickness thing, that's for sure.

I'm surprised because teams usually seem more cautious than fans when it comes to DFAing a veteran. In this case, I think the Brewers made the right call, obviously.

I guess Friday's loss won't be entirely in vain if it's what finally tipped the scales for the Brewers to realize that Matt Bush wasn't cutting it here.  Even if he finds (relative) success elsewhere, he was clearly not working out as a Brewer.  Sometimes that happens.

Pannone deserves better for his efforts, but as has been noted, that was more of a procedural transaction than a comment on his performance, and it's more likely he'll be back in Nashville soon.

Narrator: He did not.

I certainly hope so on Pannone

Glad the Bush experiment is over

Brewers likely did Pannone a favor…….

Yep. He cashed in with a kbo team. Didn't understand bringing him up for one day only to release him.

Interesting that the Rays did a similar thing. Brought a guy for one day and then released him to sign in Japan. The Japan deal was agreed to before he was even called up.

Maybe Pannone wanted to go to Korea and asked to be released. Brewers may have said, sure, but we want to get one appearance out of you first.
