RHP Jacob Misiorowski (2.53 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 13.6 K/9 in 46.1 IP) is back in action for High-A Wisconsin, who need a win at Peoria to avoid a 2-0 series hole. 1B Ernesto Martinez has .935 OPS in his last 89 PAs.

We’ve got RHP Logan Henderson (2.86 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 11.7 K/9 in 34.2 IP) tonight too, aiming to lead Low-A Carolina to a 2-0 series advantage at Myrtle Beach. 2B Jadher Areinamo is having a nice run of form: 13-for-last-31 with No Strikeouts and 2 walks.

So far so good with real baseball’s for CRod thru 4 innings. Just 2H, 1BB & 7K — 70% strike-throwing.

Command left CRod in the 5th. 2 BB’s and hit batter loaded the bases, but he got out of it with a force-out at home and a K of Edgar Quero.

The game’s into the 6th inning already (1-0 Shuckers), but here’s that lineup card for RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez and AA Biloxi. They’re looking for a win at home over Rocket City to even the series 1-1. C Jeferson Quero entered with an 18-game on-base streak.

The Mudcats have battled back to grab a 3-2 lead in the top of the 7th inning. Kay-Lan Nicasia walked, stole his 20th base (sneaky, didn’t realize he was doing that well) and scored on a Gregory Barrios RBI double. Logan Henderson went 5 innings strong, K’ing 8 Pelicans.

Two walks, two errors and a passed ball cost Carolina 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, including RHP Jesus Rivero throwing a ball away when he could have escaped tied. Instead, the Mudcats trail 5-3. C Blayberg Diaz exited after 5 1/2 innings - hopefully he’s okay.

A walk, double (Ben Metzinger) and 3 singles in the 7th inning deliver 3 runs for the Timber Rattlers, who now lead 4-3.

Jacob Misiorowski pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned), K’ing 4 Chiefs.

Jadher Areinamo comes through again, this time with a 2-run single with 2 outs in the top of the 9th inning, on the 7th pitch of his at-bat. That ties it up 5-5. He’s 3-for-5 on the day. Down to their final out, the Mudcats got an HBP and 2 walks before Areinamo’s hit.

RHP Jeison Pena is trying to get it to extra innings with a clean bottom frame.

Darn, a walk, stolen base and single drive in the winning run for Myrtle Beach. Mudcats fall 6-5. Nice comeback attempt, but stranded too many runners throughout (10 vs. 3 for the Pelicans).

I like seeing some power from Areinamo. Now we just need a few more walks. While I don't have exit velocities, everything else is about his batted ball profile is pretty much indistinguishable from Lara. They are both line drive hitters who use the entire field and rarely swing and miss. The big difference hitting wise this season has been Lara takes walks and Areinamo doesn't.

The one thing Areinamo already does at an elite level is play defense. He is the headiest defender in the current Mudcats crop of infielders. He is a plug-and-play make a smart play make the challenging play look easy infielder. 6 errors in 510 2/3 innings across SS, 3B, and 2B. In essence committing an error every 9 1/2 games. What's even more interesting for my eyes is he has zero errors playing 3B over 148 innings in 2023. He's just a very good baseball player and he's a pleasure to watch.

That's a rough couple of games for the Sounds to open their series against Louisville. They've gotten smoked twice. Ouch. They need that bullpen to get back to dominancing.

How about the ol' Mudcats duo of Smith & Shears shutting things down in the 7th-thru-9th frames? Smith, in particular: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 3K is quite the set-up. Shears grabbed his 3rd Save of his young T-Rats career.

Also, whatever 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. is on this past month...we all need to get some of that. What a tear he has been on. In the month of June he hit 0.294 with an 0.839 OPS - 51 AB, 9 R, 9 RBI, 2 2B, 2 HR, 11 K, 5 BB, 3 SB, 1 CS. In July, so far, he's taken it up another notch: 0.368 BA with an 1.087 OPS - 38 AB, 8 R, 6 RBI, 1 2B, 3 HR, 6 BB, 8 K, 3 SB, 0 CS. He was rewarded with a move up to the three spot in the batting order tonight. He definitely delivered. You just love to see it from such an affable young man!

Tip of the proverbial caps are due for the bullpen work of RHP Ryan Brady (3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 0 R) and RHP Cam Robinson (1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 S). That's now Robinson's 6th Save for the Shuckers and his third scoreless outing in July. We'll take this Cam! Let's build back those good habits from here. You got this. The first half is over. Let's toss it in the recycling bin.

From undrafted free agent to arguably the top reliever on a double-A squad in a year. Quite the season so far from Brady.

Such an interesting story as well. Didn't he go to BYU and then did a multi-year mission or something? He only threw 73 innings in his college career.
