Burnes has had an annoying number of non competitive 2 strike pitches tonight.

it annoys me because it adds pitches to his count and suggests that his command is not at its best. Some times that is an omen for a bad inning coming up.

The term is a throwaway pitch.

More non competitive pitches from Burnes. Playing with fire now. In a game where 1 run could lose it.

Yeah his bad command has really hurt him today. Really inflated the pitch count and just costed him 2 runs after going up 0-2 against the 8 hitter and subsequently walking him.

Nah. Burnes is absolutely not trying to throw these pitches 6+ inches off the plate giving the hitters easy takes.

Is Falter really going to outduel Burnes?

One of them gets to face a much easier lineup than the other.

Then they are absolutely awful throwaway pitches.

It’s not an uncommon practice in the game of baseball.

It’s also because he knows one mistake and he will lose because the other part of the team can’t do their job

Hopefully that WP removes the DP threat.

But Ks still don’t advance runners.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I think the objective is to place the pitch far enough out of the zone that it can't really be hit but enticing enough to potentially swing at.  Not to throw a pitch that is so obviously a ball that my grandmother wouldn't swing at it.  There is a difference between non-competitive and a purpose pitch.

Nobody intentionally misses by as much as he missed on some of those pitches.

Wiemer probably shouldn’t see RHP for the rest of the year.  He is looking more and more like a platoon hitter only.
