Wiemer is the worst hitter to have with runners on.

Which is why he should not have started this game. Imo. Play the best players. If Frelick was up you would have felt better true?

I felt fine with Wiemer starting the game because he's been our second best hitter against LHP.

But, once Shelton took out Falter for a RHP and with runners on, it should have been Frelick.

The Reds and Brewers are holding the door open for the Cubs to take over the division.

Wiemer probably shouldn’t see RHP for the rest of the year.  He is looking more and more like a platoon hitter only.

Counsell hasn't gone with the Frelick-Wiemer platoon I was hoping we'd see after the Canha acquisition. That's disappointing.

And non-coincidentally it was a Wiemer K that blew up both scoring opportunities....

Didn't Weimer pop out last night? Maybe I'm wrong.

I think the objective is to place the pitch far enough out of the zone that it can't really be hit but enticing enough to potentially swing at.  Not to throw a pitch that is so obviously a ball that my grandmother wouldn't swing at it.  There is a difference between non-competitive and a purpose pitch.

Those work against Adames though

Out of all the young outfielders I would be most in favor of moving Wiemer. Yes the defense is great but that bat will never play. Frelick and Mitchell both have better futures at least in Mitchells case if he can get over the injuries.

Don't remember , but whatever or whoever it is we just don't come up with a timely hit to break open a game !

It’s too early in the game.    I think counsell likes to have the flexibility to be able to make 462 moves in the ninth

Although I’m glad the cubs didn’t sell so their future ceiling decreased, we legitimately look bad enough that they should win the division.  I never thought I’d actually say that

“Throwaway pitches” aren’t the best idea with 3 balls.

It has been apparent for a few innings that Burnes didn’t have good command. Hopefully he can get out of this inning with the Brewers still in striking distance.
