I start unpacking from a long weekend and the brewers turn 3-2 deficit to 7-3.     I really must be bad luck.    I’m hardly following them this weekend and we go on to sweep the rangers and so far looking good tonight

I've heard living out the rest of your life in a cave with no way to get information on the Brewers is a very fulfilling way to live your life.

Most of the players named I am not sure the Mets would have had much interest in them.  Nimmo is playing great in CF so cross off Frelick.  They have Baty at 3B in the minors again so unless they thought Black was a 2B that crosses Black off the list.  They have a young catcher in Alvarez on their MLB roster now so Quero makes no sense here either.  That leaves Misiorowski as the only prospect that would be of interest to the Mets not named Chourio as a headliner.

If the Mets saw Misiorowski as a starting pitcher I don't see how they pass on him as the headliner for an Alonso trade.  I am going to assume they don't see him as a starter and more as a reliever.

I just don't think the Brewers prospects lined up all that well with the Mets.  It is probably why the deal didn't go all that far.  The Brewers didn't have what the Mets wanted in return for Alonso.

Baty has been terrible and Black might not even be a 3B himself. He definitely could have been the piece. But I think it would have been Misiorowski as well, would have been interesting what the actual deal would have been. I'm guessing there would have been another decent prospect in there... (Gasser, Lara?) Would have been hefty

You don’t have to put it in blue.    You are probably right

Reminiscent of the Dodgers big inning last Tuesday.

Eerily reminiscent. The 1st two hits were hit hard, though. And I loved Canhas' AB in that inning. He's someone who takes command of his ABs, seldom chases. Loved the way he steered the ball through the right side.

There are still 3 OF spots. They're starting DJ Stewart, Rapheal Ortega and Starling Marte is still signed for a year.

Nimmo is one and he's probably not the defender Frelick is and he's a lot less likely to be the same caliber defender Frelick is over the next 5-6 years when he's 34-36.

The Mets had Lindor and McNeil, plus their top prospect and they passed still took back a SS/2B prospect.

I doubt the Brewers were giving up Misiorowski, Quero or Frelick for a year+ team control of a power hitting 1B hitting .225.

But what's obvious was the Mets were looking for the top prospects. I find these "were close to a deal for," stories unreliable. We were close for Jiminiez...and then it turned out it was actually....whoever else. I think it's just unlikely.

Tyler Black. That's what I think they'd offer.

Correa has been the worst baserunner in the league this year (via BSR), and he didn't exactly look spry on that jump. I have a feeling that contract isn't going to age well. Giving out a large contract like that after two larger markets passed...

His ankle hasn't been a problem at all and he has always been a very slow runner. His defense is still very good, too.

Correa's problems this season have been rather baffling.

well you've been gone for along while

I had mostly retired from the message boards.  Moved away from Milwaukee 4 years ago, however, so missing Brewer conversations.  Also a little more interesting this year, with the influx of prospects on the team.  I've never been a minor league rat, like some Brewer fans, so interesting to learn about them.  Just wish they were doing better!

Not sure if you guys saw this but apparently the Brewers were at least somewhat close to making a big splash at the deadline

How good will David Stearns make the Mets?

He has probably been a slow runner his whole career bc he has a severely messed up ankle. Don’t think that’s a good thing, anyway you want to spin it

Or he’s just a slow runner. JJ Hardy was slow af and an elite defender.

If Correa can pivot and move laterally at an elite rate defensively, I suspect his ankle is just fine.

(at least right now)

It's not spin, it's following the Twins closely and knowing people who are very familiar with the organization.

Correa has been dealing with plantar fascitis, which might explain some of his current issues (but not all of them, such as how often he's missing on fastballs this year).

My point was a (clearly) already athletically declining player was passed over by 2 large market teams bc of a medical red flag and that the contract might not age well. I don’t know how this could be argued against currently… but yea you know more than me! My apologies!!

Oh, there are certainly risks involved with Correa, one would have to be dumb to not believe that. All I'm saying is that the shenanigans around the Giants/Mets were pretty complicated (such as the Mets using literally the exact same doctor to evaluate Correa's ankle, resulting in the identical report) and should be weighed as such.

And right now, Correa's ankle isn't a problem. It hasn't been a problem since he entered MLB nearly a decade ago. Could it start being a problem tomorrow? Absolutely, hence the caution from the Giants (I disregard the Mets almost entirely, I think they pulled some real shady **** in that situation).

But right now, there's no indication it is or has been a problem from anyone, even inside the organization.

I'll start to be truly concerned about Correa if it's June of 2024 and his OPS is still .730. There are a dozen factors that could be causing him to have a mediocre year and there simply isn't enough information to draw a real conclusion today.
