I’m hoping we aren’t getting too cute here

I do have some concerns about Megill facing Arraez, but to be fair, I'd feel even less confident in Rea.

Pete Crow Armstrong is as good as advertised on defense. Could easily see him challenging Andruw Jones for the greatest defensive OF of all time.

lol - yes, based on less than one MLB game, he's for sure in that conversation.  Doyle just made a diving catch in center for the Rockies, so Andruw Jones and PCA might have some company on the Mt. Rushmore of defensive centerfielders.

I'm sure he'll be a really good to great defensive player based on his skillset, but I've watched 10 minutes of the Cubs game tonight and I'm already incredibly annoyed by how much helium is being pumped into the hype train on a guy who looks like a young Eric Sogard physically because he ran down a couple gappers at Coors Field.

He'll be yet another fun player to watch Cub fan expectations exceed onfield performance

Except I’ve watched PCA plenty in the minors. I’ve never seen a better defensive outfielder than him at that young an age. Has earned every bit the 80 grade, which is rare enough in itself. I also didn’t say it’s going to happen, I said I “could easily see it happening”.

His bat? Now that’s a different story.

Yeah his defense is absolutely an 80 grade. Bat has massive question marks though. Here are his percentiles in AA. Doesn't hit the ball hard and doesn't have good plate discipline. Still very young so he can develop, but the likelihood of him being an immediate impact at the plate is pretty low with a profile like that.

I just saw something I’ve never seen before…….

Padres down 4-0 to Dodgers in the 4th……they have bases loaded and nobody out…….Grisham up against human homer giver upper Lance Lynn……platoon advantage for Grisham……..he bunts the ball to 3rd baseman who steps on 3rd for the force out……..2 fly balls later……out of the inning…….they got one run.

Then here is a thread from Jarrett Seidler, a Baseball Prospectus prospect guy, showing how rare it is for PCA's current batted ball profile to work in the MLB.

Yep. Not as much a believer with the bat. We'll see if he's able to start making better contact/higher quality contact.

Sometimes managers do this because the starter has a history of pitching poorly in the first inning.

That is exactly why Megill will face the tougher hitters at the top of the order.

The best hitters are usually the 1, 2, 3, 4 hitters so Megill will face them in the 1st and the Collen Rea will take over in the 2nd inning. That is my guess.
