Usually when a team shoots like they did in the first 20 minutes, they cool off. Usually. SMU shoots 31% from 3pt on the season so hopefully they revert. I mean, they got a few good looks early, made them, then had a few that were pretty well-guarded, and made THEM. Really not bothered with the defensive effort. To have them shoot that well & have 32 at half...........

They're speeding us up a little with a real nice, active halfcourt defense with the post trap. UW has to touch the post more, whether they get a shot from the big or not. Too many shots from deep, even the "good" looks. Some good ball fakes get us into the lane, I think. Storr did a nice job of that.

That last 20 seconds of Carter Gilmore cost you four points

Yeah. This isn't the profile of an opponent he thrives against. Like a lot of his teammates, he's kinda letting them get his brain to racing. Be yourself.

I guess it's a marathon, not a sprint. As impressive as SMU looked at times on offense they're a little loose with the ball. That, UW only turning it over eight times themselves & a nice rebounding edge got them more shots & the vet guards, in the final 6 minutes, really played like vet guards on both ends.

Nice bench contributions again, esp from the backcourt guys.

Crowl didn't have one of his best games, but vs a team with the type of athletes they had, then getting his 1st two shots swatted, I've seen him disappear. He had a nice, workmanlike 2nd half & finished as the games' leading rebounder save for Blackwell. Unsung hero.

Blackwell with 10 points and 9 boards tonight. Plus he got minutes during crunch time. Nice

If someone watched him play this season without knowing anything about him, then was told he was a true freshman----I mean, who would believe that? The headiness, always being in the right spot, as well as the athleticism. Running out of superlatives.

Not defending a mostly invisible game from him, but when SMU had the putback on the FT miss I believe he was on the bench.

He couldn't get around the guy in the lane and that's why they got the lay up to begin with.

Peacock has a Black Friday special good through Monday for $1.99/mo for 12 months.  Four basketball games and two hockey games upcoming.  Not sure if you have to commit to a full 12 months or if you can cancel early.

For $1.99, it's probably worth that just for the WWE events (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania).

Interesting dynamic late in the UW-Western Illinois game. Looking to clear the bench with a big lead, Gard sends three to the scorers' table. One of the three was Gus Yalden. During the next dead ball the other two enter, but Yalden retreats back to the bench.

Last week Gard was asked if there's a chance of Yalden redshirting, and he said "probably not" followed a few seconds later by "but we'll see" or words to that effect. I'm guessing Gard would like for him to redshirt but is leaving it up to Gus, which was Bo Ryans' philosophy--let the player decide. Seems like Yalden really wants to play but is having trouble deciding, based on what happened tonight. A lot of this was brought on himself, but it looks like the kid has a lot of emotional gymnastics to sort through. I wish him luck.

quite the gauntlet coming up the next three games. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they can win one of them.

A little stunned even.  Time for the team to break top 25, isn't it?

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

For a week, maybe... @MSU and @AZ will likely knock them out. Which is fine. This team is good and it's probably better if nobody thinks they are good.

I rarely get to watch the Badgers on TV, so yesterday was fun. I'm curious how the rebounding will look in the MSU game. I don't know exactly how good MSU is at rebounding this year, but given how solid they normally are I'm intrigued to see how that goes.

I don't believe this is one of their better rebounding teams, but it looks like Izzo got their attention after losing to James Madison. They're big enough & certainly capable. It'll be a physical deal, going over there.

One thing they haven't done is shoot well from 3 PT range, but they also defend the three well. The worst thing UW can do vs MSU is to start relying on jacking up threes, hopefully they don't fall into that trap.

I'm not sure what MI State looks like this year, but they've lost to 3 ranked teams and beat 4 unranked teams.  We've beat two ranked teams.  Should be a good game, but not a gimmee that we lose.

Losing to AZ (ranked #2) shouldn't be a knock against a team unless you are ranked #1...

The Badgers are now a ranked team. Therefore...

I would never expect a win at the Breslin, but I'm still on the high from beating Marquette, so I'm very excited. Then on to AZ to take on number 1. It's not the Elite 8, but let's see UW ruin another AZ season.
