It was just announced that assistant coach Dean Oliver is leaving UW. Was there for seven years. Recruited the midwest, I believe mostly Michigan/Ohio/Indiana areas. I wonder if some of the speculation coming out of Iowa City regarding Mccaffery & his future has anything to do with this. He's a former Hawkeye & may think there's an opportunity there, either immediately or in the near future.

I'm assuming Kirk Penney will be given the fulltime assistant position.

Sounds like his contract wasn't renewed.

I subsequently saw that too. I took the original tweet at its' face value, that he actually left on his own. If it is indeed a case of UW letting him go that sounds to me like creating a spot for Penney was a priority & they felt strongly he'd have other options if they didn't do so. He's developed a great rep in a pretty short time.

This doesn't do Middleton HS any good. Olivers' son Isaiah is a pretty good FB & BB player there as a sophomore.

Maybe, I’m not really much of an NBA watcher to know the likelihood of that. Seems it would be odd for a guy who isn’t very polished and a rookie…but probably has more to do with promising him the salary ($600k-ish?) than actually using him at the NBA level.

At that rate Wisconsin’s $500k isn’t impressive and $750k isn’t a huge improvement over the G-league as a two-way.

He is probably destined for the NBA at that rate. Any team willing to give him $750k+ doesn’t wait around for the Storr’s of the world to figure their stuff out.

The end of the bench type players in the NBA are filled with a lot of bad players.  The Bucks are paying Thanasis about $2m to sit at the end of the bench.  TyTy Washington is making about $500k to be a 2-way player that is basically what I think Storr is at contract wise in the NBA.

I would think teams would want to wait for a player of Storr's caliber. He's an incredible CBB player.

As for the NBA...I don't know, but look at who the Bucks have on 2-way deals?

A 6'7 wing with his athletic ability? What are the holes? Shooting? He looks streaky. Ball handling? Is his defense an issue?

It's hard for me to see where the holes are that make him such a long-shot, but I missed a lot of Badgers BB this year.

Yes & yes.

Whether that hurts his chances at a 2-way I have no idea, as I'm unfamiliar with the guys that fill those slots in the NBA.

The guys that usually get 2-way contracts are high upside type players. Storr is too athletic to turn into a good defender...if he wants to.

Oh, Storr is fantastic. I am purely talking about teams that would be looking to give him the money he seeks. I am sure there are plenty of teams that would throw $500k at him and would sit around and hope they get picked. However, it seems pretty unlikely that he is going to stay in the NCAA for that...not to mention if he does, he would probably just go back to Wisconsin.

Teams rich and willing enough to toss $750k+ at him aren't going to wait around for him to shop it or ponder the NBA. They have money and they are going to go make sure they fill out their squad. They won't get left hanging by a 2nd-team Big Ten player. That isn't anything to sneeze at, but simply...he isn't THAT guy. Those teams probably have a similar or better player(s) already...so Storr isn't a necessity to them.

Of course they would... if there were no other teams bidding for him.  The problem is that by going into the portal they don't know if he will chose them.  With him likely being one of the top 3 players in the portal, the competition is stiff.
