Gotta figure Arnold will be tempted to claw back an arbitration year by optioning Mitchell to AAA after recovery. I believe he needs to be optioned for at least 56 days to achieve that.

Can't imagine that the arbitration salary for a guy who can't get on the field is too high.

This is a slight over reaction but I’m about ready to give up on Mitchell. If 2024 turns into a lost year then I don’t know how he can bounce back from that.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I guess I'd be more in line with the "injury prone" moniker if it was a soft tissue thing like a hammy or his shoulder came out of whack on a swing but a broken bone is just bad luck.

Problem is that we've previously been down that road with Mitchell in other seasons, too.

I'm in line with you. The gestalt of his injuries is not drawing a pretty picture. Would love to be roasted for this take because of a resurgence by Mitchell. He's got the backup qb vibe, where what we haven't seen makes people want him more, as opposed to Wiemer, who is out there every day battling. Turang as well.

This is just so, so disappointing. I've been dying for an extended run from Mitchell -- just to see what they have in him, and he's always hurt. It just stinks.

So: Yelich, Chourio, Frelick, and Perkins. That's a solid four. As others have mentioned, this may put the Frelick at 3rd experiment on hold, I'd expect Dunn to take the spot on the roster in Mitchell's absence.

When he gets back and if he can hit, I think it might be time to start seeing what we can get for him. Availability is the best ability right? The outfield is crowded as is. Chourio, Frelick, Yelich and Wiemer are here and Y-Rod and Lara are a couple years away from becoming part of the problem. If we can sell high and get an interesting arm I would be really tempted. And don't get me wrong, I love Mitchell.

cut Perkins, Frehlic to OF, call up Weimer, Black to 3B..Simple

Yelich, Frelick, Chourio, and Perkins will have the outfield covered so no need for Wiemer and Ortiz and Monasterio will have 3B covered so no need for Black yet.

Perkins is the best defensive OF. Wiemer needs time in AAA to work on his new swing (9th percentile whiff rate last season). We are trying to see what we have with Ortiz at 3B and Black in a utility role would be a waste of ABs. Calling up Black also means taking a new 40-man spot and depth is key right now.

Yeah if it were me this wouldn’t change much with the roster plan. Someone like Haase or Bauers gets a roster spot now and the Frelick 3b experiment might get put on hold or it might be down to 1-2 starts per week there.

OF: Yelich, Chourio, Frelick, Perkins

IF: Hoskins, Turang, Adames, Ortiz, Monasterio, Bauers

C: Contreras, Haase, Sanchez

Turang has played CF in AAA, so he can be another OF.  Bauers has played LF and RF in the majors.

You mean outright CUT Perkins?

Yeah, I don't think that would be too wise.

I hope I am wrong but Black has the same massive front foot lift that has plagued Huira and Adames and Urias and Brinson.

When you get to the show that front foot lift is an open invitation to get speed changed to death.

MiLB career numbers…

Hiura (1,608 PA)
8.8 BB% | 23.6 K%

Adames (2,681 PA)
12.5 BB% | 22.9 K%

Urias (2,571 PA)
10.8 BB% | 13.5 K%

Brinson (3,194 PA)
8.2 BB% | 26.2 K%

Black (955 PA)
16.6 BB% | 18.3 K%

Black has a way more patient approach at the plate than all those guys and has made more contact than all but Urias throughout their respective minor league careers.

Their batting mechanics might share some similarities but it’s a whole different plate approach.

Hope so but I reserve judgement till he has to face big league pitching.

In BP? So on the swing? Or did the BP pitcher straight bean Mitchell causing a fracture?

Of course the OF jam solves itself. Frelick to the open OF spot this creates.

Brown at 3b now? Monasterio? It's whatever. Wilken will solve 3b before the season ends.

Brown at 3B?  Do you mean Eric Brown Jr?  I don't think that is an option at this point.  Do you mean Black?
