It feels like they waited as long as they could to do this. Maybe they were trying to find a deal for him, but maybe they were trying to reduce the number of teams with room to claim him. Or maybe they didn't trust his spring numbers.

He had a solid spring. But not lets kid ourselves, he hit .201 last season in about 300 at bats. That being said if Contreras or Sanchez goes down, there isn't much depth behind them. They may be forced to bring up Quero before he is ready.

I think it's as simple as the coach wants a lefty bat (Dunn) to replace the lefty bat (Mitchell) which got injured. Neither Haase nor Dunn was going to make the team, but now Dunn squeezes in.

I've literally been tweet searching 'catcher injured' for the past week and I think it now becomes even more relevant. If someone loses a catcher to a 60-day injury within the next one week, they'll likely become the best trade partner. Otherwise, we'll probably just take whatever mediocre offer comes across - e.g. from the Marlins, Athletics, etc.

Coach Murphy suggested that Haase's contract is structured in a way that makes it likely that he can be retained, but I disagree. If he stunk in Spring Training (like Hiura last year), then Haase would be far more likely to clear waivers in my opinion.

If he clears waivers (big if) I would love to keep him in Nashville. Last year only needing Bill and Caratini was an anomaly, and catching depth behind him woul be a not yet ready Quero or Navarreto. Yerzy/Kahle in AA I guess.

I'm wondering if there just an understanding that if he clears he will be outrighted to Nashville and would be first man up when needed.

Braves’ starting catcher Sean Murphy is going on the injured list, so they move into pole position to acquire Eric Haase, I think.

How about Haase to mariners (in bend of catching) for fellow dfa Tyler Trammel?  Seems a good fit.

Mariners already have 3 guys with catching experience on their roster.

Terrific outcome for the Crew. God are the Marlins cheap! Their catchers are a combined 0-for-13 with Zero walks. Swept 4 straight by the Pirates at home and they can’t even be bothered to claim a bat-first catcher. Hilarious! Our gain!

This is a massive early season 'Keep' for the Crew and the Sounds. I find it hard to believe he wasn't claimed. Hoping I get to see him early this week.
