Both starters were very good today, but probably not quite as good as their lines show due to the wind. Still, a real step forward for Ross. Other pitches played off an excellent slider all day. Could've been 6 scoreless. 0-2 to Morel, then went to 3-2 throwing a couple pitches that historically you'd easily get a chase from him. Took both, so good on him, I guess.

Let's remember, Chourio was available to PH for Frelick in a very unconventional spot (vs a RHP) & Weeks pushed the right button. THAT was surprising to me, and very impressive. If Chourio is in the lineup Frelick probably hits for himself there. I don't always agree w/the lineups or batting orders, but his availability there was huge.

Someone mentioned Perkins. We've had 2 OFs down, one hasn't played at all yet, and Wiemer was pretty much ticketed for Nashville from the get-go. If there were such thing as under-the-radar MVP, he's it.

Bauers looks very comfortable in LF. With the current makeup, that's important. Yelich on his way back, & maybe Mitchell sometime next month, will make for some interesting decisions.

If Wiemer is ILed I'd have no problem with Hicklen OR Collins. But something tells me it'll be the Fredonia Flash. Don't shoot the messenger.

Chourio was set to pinch hit against Lovelady a LHP and Counsell countered by going to Alzolay a RHP.

Brewers 3

Cubs 1

At Wrigley.

Game ends on flyout to RF.

Brings back a wonderful memory.

I was thinking about that game a lot today. Probably my favorite Brewer win of my lifetime. Game 5 in 2011 was great, but beating the Cubs at Wrigley to clinch a division, after ripping off like 8 in a row, was just awesome. Never felt a regular season like that, and game 163s are now a thing of the past.

Those, along with the '82 pennant clincher, have to be the top 3.

Looks like Monasterio is being called up for Wiemer. He was scratched from the Nashville lineup after originally being listed as a starter.

What was said?

Sophia Minnaeart asked him about the Wrigley bleachers, as it's the first time he's played out there. He responded by saying they had some choice words for him. Sophia asked what they said and he just gave a shout out to his mother (who he loves very much) and his wife (who he also loves).

That was hilarious.  Well played.  And as an earlier poster said, he does seem very natural out there.

Counsell seems to be another guy who just doesn't seem to get it with pitching moves.

He had the same exact problem coaching in Milwaukee.

Not really.

Brewers relievers posted +41.55 Win Probability Added (1st in MLB) while Counsell was making the calls from 2016-23.

I remember the, "is josh hader cursed, broken, or both days" it was extremely painful for me. Then we got rid of him and Sterns.

If this turns out to be a non-serious injury, sending Wiemer to the IL or AAA is probably better for this team in the long run.

I cringed when he turned his ankle.  I've done that a few times so that spot is a weak one for me.

Jake Bauers post-game comments about the Wrigley bleachers was hilarious.
