Should we expect to see Brewer Hicklen in Chicago tomorrow?

If not - who gets called up for Wiemer?

Brewer Hicklen hitting .310 this spring in Nashville. Could be a blessing in disguise.

EXCELLENT WIN!

Beating the Cubs is ALWAYS sweet!

Beating the Cubs with Counsell as their manager is extra super super SWEEEEEET!

Let's not revise history just because he's on the Cubs now.

No revisions necessary. He hasn't been great handling bullpen in about 5 years. His peak was 2018. He's just a guy in that department.

I'd go with Isaac Collins personally.

IC: 288/414/613 (156 wRC+)
18.2 BB% | 16.2 K%

BH: 316/429/526 (147 wRC+)
14.3 BB% | 25.2 K%

I wondered if he might be a good option & I trust your take more than mine

If this turns out to be a non-serious injury, sending Wiemer to the IL or AAA is probably better for this team in the long run.

I think he was always extremely lucky that we gave him a great bullpen to begin with.  I think he was always over-rated because of his Wisconsin ties, which he chose to end.

Any competent MLB manager could have done what he did with the bullpens he was given.

He's the enemy now.

Brewers 3

Cubs 1

At Wrigley.

Game ends on flyout to RF.

Brings back a wonderful memory.

He was a part in all that though.  In addition, they turned over the whole bullpen almost every year with guys we've never heard off except Harder (and eventually him too) and still got results.  And to the original comment on this, to get the results he still had to be choosing the right guys at a higher rate than almost all managers.  Again, this is why he's soundly considered one of the best managers in the game.     I also liked his earlier years creativity but the results kept coming

From 2019-23 Brewers relievers tallied +27.32 Win Probability Added (2nd in MLB) with Craig making the calls.

Craig's peak managing the bullpen was when they put up +11.73 WPA last year, the 5th highest mark out of 720 individual team bullpen seasons since the calendar flipped to the year 2000.

2018 bullpen came in at +5.65 WPA, still plenty good but six wins short of 2023.

Jake Bauers post-game comments about the Wrigley bleachers was hilarious.

Yup, was just going to post that!  He seems like a decent guy...

I mean Couns actually did me a solid. I didn't think there was a way on god's green Earth I could enjoy beating the Cubs more than I have my entire life...BUT, here I am middle-aged and I've somehow 'Up-Leveled' in one off-season! It's glorious.

I'd bet it's just Owen Miller if Wiemer has to go on the IL especially with Yelich supposedly nearing a return.

OF Christian Yelich (low back strain)
Expected return: May
It's a familiar ailment for Yelich, who has battled back issues since his mid-20s with the Marlins. The latest bout came amid a torrid start to the season, knocking him out of the Brewers' April 12 series opener in Baltimore. Yelich had already been doing better running and throwing before a minor breakthrough on May 3 at Wrigley Field, when he had his best session yet swinging the bat in the cage. His goal, he said, is to play before the end of the Brewers' current road trip. (Last updated: May 3)

Both starters were very good today, but probably not quite as good as their lines show due to the wind. Still, a real step forward for Ross. Other pitches played off an excellent slider all day. Could've been 6 scoreless. 0-2 to Morel, then went to 3-2 throwing a couple pitches that historically you'd easily get a chase from him. Took both, so good on him, I guess.

Let's remember, Chourio was available to PH for Frelick in a very unconventional spot (vs a RHP) & Weeks pushed the right button. THAT was surprising to me, and very impressive. If Chourio is in the lineup Frelick probably hits for himself there. I don't always agree w/the lineups or batting orders, but his availability there was huge.

Someone mentioned Perkins. We've had 2 OFs down, one hasn't played at all yet, and Wiemer was pretty much ticketed for Nashville from the get-go. If there were such thing as under-the-radar MVP, he's it.

Bauers looks very comfortable in LF. With the current makeup, that's important. Yelich on his way back, & maybe Mitchell sometime next month, will make for some interesting decisions.

If Wiemer is ILed I'd have no problem with Hicklen OR Collins. But something tells me it'll be the Fredonia Flash. Don't shoot the messenger.
