Would Tobias Myers and Oliver Dunn be enough to get a guy like Fedde, maybe throw in lotto style prospect?

I don't think that would be enough to win the bidding. Those guys are essentially just organizational depth pieces without a whole lot of upside.

My best guess at a Fedde headliner would be one of Mike Boeve or Luis Lara.

Not even close.

Ummmm, I am going out on a limb here, and saying that that offer would draw laughs from the Sox front office.

I think paying a high price for Fedde or any other bottom of the rotation guy is just a stupid idea. We have to be realistic and see that to make it to the World Series we are going to have to beat two of Atlanta/Philadelphia/LAD and a guy like Fedde certainly does little to improve those already long odds.

Fedde is 23rd in IP (74.1), 34th in ERA- (83), 26th in FIP- (85), 25th in rWAR (1.8) and 21st in fWAR (1.6) so far this year.

Freddy is 54th in IP (67.1), 51st in ERA- (93), 27th in FIP- (86), 38th in rWAR (1.4) and 29th in fWAR (1.4) so far this year.

At least then we’d have two “bottom of the rotation” guys instead of only one.

I totally understand the recency bias, here, but is Fedde such an upgrade over Myers (considering team control), that we'd just give him up for Fedde? Seems like robbing Peter to pay Paul considering Myers is a rotation contributor.

And Fedde doesn't get to pitch against the White Sox, the worst offensive team in the league.

I am starting to like the idea of Fedde, but I would really only offer a 2/3 player package of minor league guys that might not be enough to obtain him.    Or Wiemer straight up maybe (not Mitchell).

Agree on the first sentence, but I see no reason to move Ortiz from 3B given how much more difficult it is to find a 3B compared to finding a 2B.  His throws have been a little erratic, but I attribute that to playing very few innings at 3B during his career prior to this season (2100 innings at SS in the minors, 390 at 2B, 127 at 3B).  Wilken can be the 1B of the future, find a 2B who has a good bat but doesn't have the arm to stick at SS or 3B.

I have a feeling they may be leaning towards Turang staying put & Ortiz moving to SS. While Turang can easily be a solid SS, at 2B he could turn out to be the best in the game. He's in a comfort level that I'd hate to disrupt. And Ortiz can make the move to SS w/o problem.

I'm with you about the difficulty of finding a 3B. And looking into the crystal ball, I think of Wilkin as a possibility on both corners. But they really, really want him to work out at third & I think that's the way it's going to go, at least initially.

At the end of the day I love Ortiz at third, and I'm pretty sure I'd love him at SS. And I'd be on board with Wilkin playing 1B with others staying put If EBJ or Freddy Zamora hit their marks on the farm but that hasn't happened, at least not yet.

I was slow to get to this point in thinking, mostly due to how great Turang is as a defender --- I had a hard time accepting that Ortiz could be as good defensively. But after seeing him get a few innings there, it looks like the Brewers have a really strong keystone-connection for the foreseeable future.

The other thing is that for the Brewers, having a great defensive 2nd-baseman (hang with me here), may just be MORE important these days than having a great shortstop. The shift rules, obviously, made defense at 2nd super-important. And usually, your 3rd baseman is a stronger defender than your first baseman.

I still think Turang is the rangier, stronger-armed defender. He converts so many outs (like last night's last out), by ranging far to his right, and still being able to make accurate throws from that spot. If your team features a decent 3rd baseman, he should be cutting off a lot of those tough throws from the hole for the SS.

Sorry to derail the thread.

I respectfully disagree. I think Luzardo is really solid. Not spectacular, perhaps, but he's been healthy (the last few years), and his rates have been really consistent the last 2 seasons.

Solid last year, horrible this year.
