Hedbert just smokes a hooking liner to RF.

This is absolutely amazing. The work you all put in is treasured by many of us and I for one am eternally grateful. The recaps and the daily thread - I mean some days I can just “watch” the games from the details, highlights and posts.  My hat is tipped, and a huge thank you to Jim, Daniel and Joseph.

You are extremely welcome! My pleasure. Our pleasure.

RHP Garrett Stallings strikes out the side in the 5th. Stallings, actually, has pitched extremely well in August. I will not let this go unnoticed! Oh NO I shall not!

Yerlin gives that lead right back. Gives up a 104 mph long ball over the RF wall facing his first batter. Oh Yerlin will you ever stack outings? Sigh. 2-2 game. Just like that. Hung a heater. That ball was torched.

The like button doesn't seem sufficient, so ditto. I love following these threads and the articles to get a look beyond the box score.

OMG!!! Ethan Murray has entered the chat! His first long ball of 2024. My sweet Prince. He smoked a two-run jack over the LF wall. Absolutely crushed. My MAN! Thank you!

Well Ethan Murray - of all people - HR to make it a 4-1 Shucker lead. This equals all the run support they had last week - well except Thursdays twinbill. That’s right 4 runs Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
And who had Ethan Murray in the HR bingo tonight!!

meanwhile Yerlin gives the HR, then a single and a stolen base.

Yerlin escapes - he gets a K swinging on an off-speed pitch well off the plate. Whewww. Two K to escape futher damage. Is it ever easy with Rodriguez? Rarely. The answer is rarely.

And Yerlin gets back to back Ks. He can get hit, can get wild and can get outs. A little bit of everything in that inning.

2-2 still. Shuckers now need to try to preserve the lead …. Nay, let’s add to it. I’d love to see an offense show for biloxi. Please.

Flores with just a fantastic 3 innings of work (5 K) - 12 batters faced. Scoreless.

So, are we thinking it is safe to assume the ACL BABIP was a fluke?

LOL. I was thinking about that tonight. I don't think the sample size is large enough? What I can say in having watched 3-of-4 outings in Carolina: he has filthy off-speed stuff. He has a legit one-two punch curve-change. The heater has some subtle late movement. I'd love to see him develop a cutter. Said it earlier tonight. would love to see him develop a cutter and add a few ticks on the heater. If he can do that? I'm a big time believer. What we can say this early: he is certainly allowing way fewer hits in Low-A than he was in the ACL. Was it a fluke? Hard to tell. I've seen those ACL game logs and box scores change shape and appearance inning-to-inning. I just don't take the peripherals all that seriously. BUT, when a guy strikes out as many batters as Flores did? You and I both know: that matters and it typically translates.

Wichrowski has only thrown 42 pitches through 4 IP. We are looking at a possible career-high tonight if things go well. Also: he doesn't have a single K as of yet. His lowest tally of his season was 1 K in 5 IP back on May 10th. Shuckers lead 4-1 in the top of the 5th frame - Miller just K'd swinging.

AND, Yerlin walks his lead-off batter in a 2-2 game to start his second inning of work. For a pitcher I like as much as I do in Rodriguez, he is an absolutely maddening young hurler with a massive set of uncontrolled tools.

LHP Aaron Ashby comes aboard and continues to throw the same filth he's thrown over the past three outings. My goodness. He is just bringing dirt to the mound in short relief stints in August. This is not an exaggeration. Everything is dialed unlike it has been commanded the entire season outing-to-outing. Sitting 95-96 mph on the sinker. Touching 97. BUT, the real story, for is the curve/slider and sprinkled change. He gets his second K in a row on pure nasty.

I was just about to post how Ashby looks.

So he’s had a few good outings, big deal…. How many. Well (looks it up ) this is his 4th straight scoreless short outing in a row.  And he commands the curve, which makes his FB better.  With two-three pitches he can absolutely be a short reliever.

I am hopeful he can keep this gig going.

And two straight hits for the Soinds. Arroyo singles and hard single for Hicklen he legs out for a double. 0 out, runners on 2nd/3rd. Let’s go Sounds!

Trats get out of the jam still 2-2.

I think the outing I saw him live there were a lot of pitches where I went "well, nobody's hitting that one." Unfortunately, for every one I said it because the pitch was absolutely filthy, there were two where I said it because he was nowhere close to the strike zone. But man, even in one of his worst outings in a rough year, you could see those glimpses of dominance that you can dream on.

Bases juiced for Sounds. Still no one out.

Wichrowski - I’m not watching but you can feel the process. Cruising through 4 I P. a couple of batter get on but then a GIDP. Then a hit and a walk and then he get the out. A struggle for the inning but he gets through it conceding only a run.

Carlos D Rodriguez takes a bases loaded walk. And they now lead. 6-5. Incredible. Still no outs. Wow
