Carolina Mudcats was a fine name. I’ll withhold judgment until next Friday but it’s if something very minor league  like the Trash Panda’s I won’t be happy. 
 

I pick on them because that’s the most ridiculous minor league branding right now

The Carolina Mudcats are no longer the Brewers Single A ball team):):): They will now be the Wilson........., in effect the 2026 season): Merch will be sold on MILB's online store shortly I would guess(:

announcing this a year in advance is a bold move, so everyone will be buying the new stuff and wearing it to the games this year when they still are the mudcats?

I can only imagine the outrage in that area over a name change.  They could have easily kept the exact same name and just did some updates on unis and logos if they feel they needed to.

Any guesses on the new name. I kind of love some crazy names like the Rocket City Trash Bandits.

I don't know the area if Wilson is known for anything specifically.

The new stadium is going downtown, which has been undergoing a revitalizing effort for a few years. The centerpiece of the area is the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park

based on the promotional flier, I think it will be a nice rebrand, but keeping the name made sense, since they are just moving down the road.

Recognizing this type of move and re-brand always ruffles feathers somewhere, frankly, at this point in time - as someone obviously not invested in that specific geographical region - I am just grateful they didn't become 'The Whirligigs'. That felt like a very challenging ask to pull off for a sports team. 'Warbirds' is very Wilson-appropriate and it certainly feels like the community's input was taken quite seriously. I do hope they have some form of an homage to the Mudcats Logo and the Mudcats brand and its diehards find some form of solace throughout this upcoming season. Hopefully, none of this impacts the players or the baseball 'product' on the field. And, hopefully, the proper respects and commemorating and remembering of the Mudcats storyline as a whole is done proper. That's about all I can say about any of this. I'm sure this was an emotional day for many.
