Didn’t necessarily see that coming but it makes sense given the depth rising up and his challenges, this gives him a chance to sign with another organization or join independent ball now and try to get looks for another team. 

Crazy that in April ‘24 he looked like another fast rising pitching prospect. Man sometimes this is so hard to predict.  Baseball….

Roster Update: Tobias added from ACL Brewers

ZEBULON, N.C. – The Milwaukee Brewers announced a roster transaction affecting the Carolina Mudcats active roster. The announced move is the addition of RHP Griffin Tobias from the Arizona Complex League Brewers to the Mudcats.

The Carolina Mudcats roster is currently at 29 active players and 5 players on the injured list.

Tobias will wear #24.

Tobias, the 2024 9th round pick out an Indiana high school, turns 20 years old on the 20th of this month. He has a 29-to-1 K-to-BB ratio in 36.2 innings in Arizona, other stats available at the linked name above.

So that leaves Tyler Renz (ACL) and Joey Broughton (IL) as the only '24 drafted pitchers in the organization (so signed and not traded) yet to make it full season ball. And the '23 group has fared pretty well too as most (same criteria) are at high A or higher (except Bjorn Johnson and Josh Timmerman in low A and Josh Knoth on full season IL)

BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers and Milwaukee Brewers have announced that RHP Nick Merkel has been reinstated from the 7-Day Injured List. The active roster now stands at 26 players.

Merkel, who was placed on the 7-Day Injured List on May 27, threw 2.0 scoreless innings in two appearances with the Rookie-level ACL Brewers on a rehab assignment. With the Shuckers, Merkel held a 1.20 ERA across 15.0 innings prior to injury.

Congrats to the 19-year-old Venezuelan native Colmenarez, the 3rd year pro has shined in his five 2025 starts, 2.14 ERA, 0.90 WHIP.

Payano, a $350,000 bonus signing, had only played in three games before landing on the IL, in this, his debut season.

When De La Rosa ($200,000), Aguirrez, and Garcia first play, they will be making their professional debuts.

Ok. Expected there was a move - Patrick to AAA or move him to the bullpen (with a bullpen arm going down- although not sure who had options that needed to go down).

The answer is for Chad to continue getting starter innings in AAA.  I could still see him as a bullpen add if the team needed a 6th/7th inning right handed pitcher in August/September, or filling in Miz spot in the rotation if they needed to limit his innings.
