This article is mostly speculation but does make a good point that Yelich might not be happy primarily DH'ing. We've talked about the possibility of trading Yeli for 2 or 3 years, I don't think it happens this year but I could see next offseason making sense. I foresee him DHing like 75% of the games he is healthy (at least until a Mitchell injury). I believe he has 4/88 without counting differals, if he stays healthy and has the same athleticism he would have decent value next offseason (big if on healthy). Although there could be massive roster turnover next year if we trade Yeli and Quero make a Contreras deal possibly as well.

I think Yelich is smart enough to know that with him coming off a major injury, being the primary DH is the right thing to do THIS year. He'll get some opportunities in LF and he can see how it goes and maybe rethink things in 2026. I look for him to come back and have another very good year. Given what it would take to replace him with the size of contracts sky rocketing, I don't think the Brewers even consider trading him unless they are overwhelmed with an offer.  No way I'm dealing Quero if the Brewers are looking at possibly dealing Contreras down the road.

Yeah. It's a guy from SI rehashing an idea from a FanSided post.

I'll make a prediction...Christian Yelich ends his contract as a Brewer.

Sorry, I meant there would be a lot of turnover if we traded Yeli and Contreras if Quero had a good year.

The only trade that makes some sense financially would be if the Dbacks took on all of Yelich's remaining salary including deferments in a Yelich for Montgomery trade.  Financially it would make sense for the Brewers but I think even with a declining Yelich he would provide more value on the field than Montgomery would.  It would get the Brewers out of a long term contract with Yelich and would free up some money for other extensions.

Neither team would do this and I am not sure Yelich would approve the deal anyways.

even with a declining Yelich

21: 102 wRC+ | 1.4 WAR
22: 111 wRC+ | 2.1 WAR
23: 122 wRC+ | 3.8 WAR
24: 153 wRC+ | 3.0 WAR

Who knows how things will play out post surgery, but Yelich was on his third straight year of improved performance before the back became too much to bear.

Yelich was arguably the best hitter in the lineup before going down last season. There's a reason he was an All-Star Game starter. Sure, there is a potential for decline, and the injury chance is always prevalent, but a healthy Yelich is still a top-notch MLB hitter.

Wasn’t referring to Yelich being in decline was just stating that even in a decline he would be more valuable than Montgomery.
