If the Mets are truly out, why not check in and see what's going on?  He is just too perfect of a fit I guess...  Hoskins can be the normal DH, taking the bench on days that Yelich and Contreras need to be there.

I know, I know, the $$$ it will take makes it impossible, but like I said, a guy can dream...

SNY’s Andy Martino reported that the Mets “now consider it the most likely outcome that [Pete] Alonso will sign elsewhere.”
The Mets just re-signed Jesse Winker to a one-year, $8 million contract. Martino believes that this means “The Mets have pivoted to plan B, post-Alonso.” Adding Winker wouldn’t seem to preclude the Mets from bringing back Alonso to play first base with Mark Vientos at third base; however, Martino seems less convinced that it remains a possibility. If the Mets are truly out on Alonso that seems to leave on the Blue Jays as a potential option for the slugger.

The New York Post’s Joel Sherman reports Pete Alonso rejected a three-year contract offer from the Mets in the $68-70 million range.

Sherman adds that the Mets have already begun to pivot away from the Polar Bear by re-signing Jesse Winker to a one-year, $7.5 million contract and will make a run at signing lefty closer Tanner Scott, the top reliever left on the open market. We can’t totally dismiss the possibility that Alonso or the Mets make a last-ditch effort in the coming weeks, but it sounds increasingly unlikely that he’s going to return to New York. Sherman notes that barring a last-minute reversal, New York is planning to move Mark Vientos to first base with Luisangel Acuña, Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio battling for the starting job at the hot corner.

I wonder if it's possible to do something with an early opt-out after two seasons so he has the chance to rebound a bit in MKE and still be looking at another huge payday in two seasons. You'd think playing half of his games in MKE vs NY would help his offensive numbers.

As far as the numbers themselves, no idea what it would take and also, maybe the Brewer brass feels their window isn't quite open yet for a big gamble like Alonso. But I also thought he would be a great fit if they can somehow swing it (no pun intended).

I'd be all for it. The problem though, is it's pretty much a certainty that MA will never allow it.

BTW what is Stearns doing has this big pocketbook and won't pay pete more than 22 mil a season but will pay juan soto 305 million for 5 years and then he proceeds to build the most trash rotation in baseball lmao

Rejected 68 over 3 if he wants longterm I would say 120 over 6 if we can unload hoskins

If the Brewers sign Alonso it would be closer to what they did with Grandal.  So a 1-year deal with a mutual option which will get declined from both sides which just makes it a 1-year deal.

1B/DH free agents don't have much in terms of a bargaining position in free agency.  Alonso is going to learn this real quick as I don't believe there is a team out there that will beat what the Mets initially offered him last year with the 7-year deal.  He will have to take a 1-year deal similar to what Grandal had to do in order to get a big payday.

Sadly, he would laugh at that offer.

Great, sign me up!  Would love a year with a guy like Alonso at 1B!

Alonso or Bregman.  I'm not picky.  Be the surprise team out of nowhere, a la AZ with Burnes. . . . Fun to dream.  Other than pure HRs, Bregman's basic numbers incl. OPS seem better than Alonso's, and they're the same age.

Would he take the attanasio typical 5/100 deal?  Would open up a Frelick trade for Lowe or Boehm assuming Yelich can handle left well enough (Perkins remains ans well) and Hoskins DH.  Interesting if nothing else.

Alonso and Bregman are both agreeing to massively deferred contracts to become bench bats with the Dodgers

I can see the crew going after one of them on a short term deal

They might make a call to say they did it, but that is as far as it will go.  I think we all know that.
