What an impressive & talented young team

I would love to see them play live

I believe there are several future big league players on this squad

Made gets tons of hype (well deserved) but Payne is really impressive … Pena too

I am starting to believe we have 3 top 50 prospects in all of baseball in Carolina right now. Wow. Made being as advertised isn't even the story here. How good have Peña and Payne been? I'd wager they're flying up prospect rankings. Huge speed and power tools with both.... but the mature approach they have and the swing decisions??? They're both making has me dangerously optimistic.

Want a fun stat? Pena is the only teenage prospect in A ball with a K rate of less than 10% and an ISO of at least .1. If you increase that to 15%, only one other name is added to the list. Who? Well @Joseph Zarr dedicated a post to him earlier today.

Great news for those who want to watch the Muddies but aren't subscribed to MiLB TV. Tomorrow's game @ the Columbia Fireflies at 11:05 AM EDT is MiLB TV's Free Game of the Day. Wande Torres is listed as the starter.

I am gonna clue some of you guys in, but for right now (at least) on ballysports.com you can watch every single MiLB game free. I don't have much good to say about Ballys and their Brewers broadcast/app. But this is absolutely sweet. You can watch 4 games all at once and best of all it is free with a quick sign up of phone number. I have been really pleased so far and now I cannot complain when there is nothing to watch.

I don't remember it being advertised (so I'm hoping it isn't temporary), but my MLB.TV subscription also includes the MiLB games.  And since I get my MLB.TV subscription for free from T-Mobile... double bonus.😏

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Fun facts of the (off) day: the Mudcats have 874 plate appearances this year. Only 52 of those PA (6 percent) have gone to players (Rodriguez, Nicasia) with season OBPs lower than .368. The team OBP is .402 (league is .345).

We know that the Mudcats have the lowest batters’ age in the league, 19.5. I’m not sure how that number is calculated, but in a sense it understates how young they are. Half of the 14 players on the roster are 18 or 19 (seasonal age). Those teenagers have gotten 58 percent of the team’s plate appearances. The five players over 20 have gotten only 25 percent of the PA. The league average batter’s age is 20.6.

That is true and it becomes a flawed statistic at times - like in pitching staffs where a couple of pitcher over 25 for example can skew the "average" age, or if a bunch of players on the roster are young, but the main at bats are given to more experienced players. I guess it generally evens itself out, and also changes with promotions (older guy goes up, and a younger guy gets called up), so the ages fluctuate a bit.

But if you go with AB or IP weighting of ages, that Mudcat team would be pretty young (see IP by Meccage, Hernandez among others).

Anyone have opinion on Dinges's catching? I haven't been paying much attention. Was hoping to see it tonight but he's the DH.

He's small for a catcher just in terms of build. Most catcher's are a bit sturdier. Seems like he can make it work back there with more reps. Per his fangraphs scouting report he's popped sub 1.90 pop times so the arm is good.

I think it's interesting the Brewers drafted him as a catcher despite the lack of experience. They must see something there.

I think he was always a catcher, he just didn't catch at Florida State last year because they had guys they thought were better defensive catchers than Dinges.
