Wes Clarke gets a new home as a byproduct of Civale's unhappiness. No word on the return yet .. likely cash or a PTBNL of some kind.

For a AAA bat that hasn’t really been all that good this year and a spot on the AAA roster that is going to go to Wilken at some point his time was really numbered.  I don’t expect the Brewers to get much from this trade maybe a lottery ticket.  But it is probably cash for this transaction.

This is probably a good outcome for Clarke with Wilken probably coming up to AAA at some point he was going to be losing AB’s and probably on the verge of being released.

Clarke was striking out 40% of the time in AAA, and in his 5th professional season after being a college player. He’s organizational depth  at this point; the Vaughn trade made him irrelevant

I think it was just cash, maybe to help balance the books after sending cash to Chicago with Civale. I haven't been enjoying our transactions recently.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

In a vacuum, the major league staff went from Civale -> Miz and the minor league 1b depth went from Clarke -> Vaughn... so we improved both spots.

At least in the minors game thread yesterday there was speculation it was for Shay Whitcomb based on him also being pulled from a game.

In a vacuum we traded Civale, cash, and Clarke for a guy we are hoping doesn't play for us this year and gets non tendered next year. I'm not trying to be negative but I just can't find a bright spot.

I split this out of the Civale thread for a little more visibility.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Clarke had some big flys in spring training a couple years ago if I remember correctly. Got some folks excited.

HOF-Spring Training Edition.   Yeah, remember that 3B we had hitting bombs this ST that some thought was the answer to our 3B issue and then he went 0-everything for a month?

Neither do I.

The amount of money in these cash trades is miniscule, on the scale of things.

There is a limit on minor league roster spots. Quero, Martinez, Black, Alfaro, Seigler, Vaughn, Dalbec are his competition for 1B and C, and add a few more for DH. There just wasn't a roster spot for him. Cash is just getting *something* in return as oppoed to just releasing him.
