It may be time to start taking real notice of 16-year-old Dominican RHP Steven Duran. Not only does he share my birthday (July 24th) but he just put up another impressive performance. 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 WP, 4 K, 0 R.

DSL Brewers Blue knotted up 1-1 in the bottom of the 6th at Home.

Well happy almost birthday @Joseph Zarr  and Steven Duran. And you guys are about the same age, right? 😉

Let's hope for some fireworks in the affiliates today ... and I mean of the good variety please 🙄

DSL Blue wins 9-1.

Diustin Mayorquin followed Duran with five innings of 1 R | 4 H | 1 HBP | 3 K work before Jhosep Ospino struck out the side in the ninth, now up to 11 IP | 12 K without an ER for Jhosep.

Johanderson Tarazona stayed hot with his first HR of the year (plus a single, walk, stolen bag & two RBI),

Leonard Rijo chipped in two singles, a walk and two stolen bags while Jefer Lista & Moises Polanco each doubled (with Jefer also adding a walk and stolen base).

DSL Gold lost 6-2 in the completion of a previously suspended game.

Isais Chavez (double), Christopher Acosta (triple), and Francis Sosa (home run) joined Juan Martinez (single) in hitting for the team cycle.

Linbel Jimenez struck out four of six batters faced (with a walk and two wild pitches for a little Island Intrigue).

Currently trailing 3-1 bottom three in a scheduled seven inning affair for their second game of the day with the lone run scoring on a Pedro Tovar walk and stolen base then back to back throwing errors.

Don't love seeing all 3 of the big money IFA signings still sitting below the Uecker line nearing the 25 game mark of the season. Fenelon is at least drawing a ton of walks. Coming into today only 3 qualified DSL Brewers hitters had a wRC+ over 100

17-year old switch-hitting catcher Johanderson Tarazona may be our most exciting position player in the DSL.

Homer, single, walk today. Threw out 2 attempted basestealers. I’m not sure why he’s not played more this season.

Enderson Mercado went for 1 R | 2 H | 1 BB | 5 K over four innings on the Arizona Complex before Nick Merkel worked a 3U3D fifth.

Zona Crew has picked up three runs top six with a Kevin Ereu single, Engel Paulino walk (wild pitch), Josh Adamczewski ROE, and Frederi Montero double.

Luis Corobo walk sets up two on, two out for Demetrio Nadal.

Yeah, I figured they were due for a clunker after the banner year in 2024, but even in a clunker scenario I thought one of Antunez or Fenelon (plus at least one random kid no one ever heard of) would be putting up solidly above average statistical seasons.

Not trying to derail things but it would be great if they would televise the DSL games.  All the investment they've made in the complex and all the social content they do surrounding their young players.  Seems like it would make sense, would make great lunch break content.

I’m kind of hoping they’ve spared no expense in Carolina and that new stadium will have full on data.

ACL Brewers go on to win 7-4 with four straight walks & an Adamczewski sac fly adding two runs in the seventh, then a two RBI Engel Paulino double in the eighth.

Happy 4th of July! High-A Wisconsin hosts Beloit, needing a win to even this week’s series 2-2. 22-year old RHP Jaron DeBerry (3.49 ERA. 1.24 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 in 38.2 IP) gets tonight’s start. 1B Blake Burke has 5 multi-hit games in his last 9 contests.

AA Biloxi is home (don’t mind the graphic), trailing 2-1 in this week’s away-and-home series against Pensacola. LHP Tate Kuehner has navigated traffic effectively al year (2.64 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 in 71.2 IP). 20-year old CF Luis Lara leads the Southern League in PAs (345) and doubles (20), sits second in SBs (28), third in walks (44) and fifth in hits (75) and runs (45).

After a tough home loss yesterday, AAA Nashville drove over to Memphis to continue this week’s home-and-away series, which they trail 2-1. RHP Tobias Myers allowed 9 hits (6 IP, 3 R, 6Ks) last outing, but preceded that with 2 shutouts (11 IP, 10 Ks). SS Oliver Dunn is back after missing 3 games and C Nick Kahle sees his first action since May 31.

Walther took a foul ball directly off his throwing hand leading to his exit. Perhaps this is a potential look at what length of absence we might guesstimate for Peña

Pretty nice escape for Dorchies there in the 1st inning. Gave up a single and 2 full count walks, but came back with a line out to center and a K swinging.

2-0 Mudcats thus far

This year is a lot like 2022 - not great, and and the offense is low, and not a lot of production from the "names" (J. Barrios and J. Severino), but you can find a Luis Lara and get a serviceable player in Anthony Flores, and trade chips in Barrios and Severino. Not all classes will have generational talents. But if one of the players can turn into Barrios/Severino/Lara/Flores/Galindez, that is still a good year.

Also the basic stats don't always tell the story, listening the MicroBrew podcast with JR and Curt, and Curt was saying that predicting success from DSL stats is not easy to do, and we don't have EVs or swing decision data, and that is what scouts seem to rely on more from hitters rather than batting average or OPS.

Jaron DeBerry can get strikeouts, but is also giving up runs. Tonight a 3 run HR, otherwise a respectable 6K and 1BB in 5 IP and only 77 pitches. But gives up 4 hits, 3 singles and 1 big HR.

T-Rats were up 2-0 now down 3-2 in Appleton in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Tate Kuehner has been on a roll lately.  And was cruising until giving up 2 runs in the 4th inning and gives up the tying run. His offense gets him three back. And how does he reward them? With a 3 up and 3 down 5th inning striking out the side, thank you very much
