Merkel also playing with fire but gets a grounder to Pratt end of 8 innings. Shuckers nursing a 6-5 lead.

In Delaware, Tobias out after two solid scoreless innings. Bryan Rivera in.

Bryant with 2 strike outs to start the 9th. One out to go.

Carolina gets some insurance runs (a run back) with Ibarguen HR - his first in low A.

Oh no. After a near miss - Lara got hurt diving back to first base, but he’s ok

Now Bryant one strike away from the save a points to his elbow. Yikes. He’s coming out. Ugh. Not good at all. Tyler was coming into his own. Hopefully minor injury and an abundance of caution, and he’s back healthy soon.

Fitzpatrick in. And one pitch and gets the save? Nice play by Vargas. Gregory Barrios makes the last out - he was visible today

Thoughts with Bryant - hopefully nothing serious. Didn’t look off but he called for the trainer after the ball to make it 3-2.

Bryant's reaction there reminded me of many pitcher's when the UCL goes pop. Did not look good.

Yeah, that looked not good. At all. Man, these injuries hurt me every time. We've suffered so many the past few years with guys we love on the fringes. This one hurts. Bryant is absolutely One of my favorite bullpen arms in the system. When he is right? He is filthy. There is a price to pay all too many times. Just brutal.

Also, I can simply come out and say it: I did not anticipate this level of start and success for Pedro Ibarguen. But, man alive, if he doesn't just have the physical look of a player who is ready for this level of competition:

Rough month of July for RHP Will Childers. He's given up 1-to-2 runs in every relief outing - all four of his Nashville outings and his sole Biloxi outing. He is mired in a relief slump.

On the other hand, clean 1.0 IP of 1 H 0's for RHP Justin Yeager in his first action as a Sound.

We have so many second and third tier teenage prospects with good swing decisions that the second one puts up a good average they’ll have a .450 OBP

RHP Griffin Tobias with a fantastic relief outing: 2.0 IP, 1 H, (you guessed it) 0 BB, 3 K, 0 R.

LOVE love love seeing RHP Bryce Meccage trending in this new direction. 18 K: 3 BB in 15 1/3 IP is exactly what the doctor ordered for the month of Juuuuuly.

Mudcats improve to 15-7 overall. Much like the first half, however, they aren't really making any headway in the standings regardless. They lead 2nd place Fredericksburg by a mere 1.0 G. Miles to go.

I was hoping that last year would prove to be the fluke rather than his 2023 DSL performance. Some of the playing time and lineup placements made it seem like he had to prove himself to the organization this time around, and so far he is doing it.
