I think he’s the perfect guy for this team.  Here is my first offer that might not be enough.

1) Pratt, Black, CRod,  Hudson

Don't you think that is way to much to give up for a player who isn't as good as Ortiz

Basically Pratt for Otto Lopez? That seems like a bargain for the Brewers. Rodriguez, Black, and Hudson have very little trade value. Pratt looks like a glove first contact hitter which is pretty much what Otto Lopez is. Not seeing much of an argument for Ortiz being better than Lopez. Lopez has a career 97 wRC+ with 17 DRS and 21 OAA in his career. Ortiz has a career 87 wRC+ with 3 DRS and 18 OAA in his career. Lopez underlying batted bull numbers are much better than Ortiz as well.

We get to keep DL Hall?

Seems that now it is Pratt that you include in every offer, and DL Hall is now safe from your dumping.

System is so loaded with pitchers for R ball to MLB. Trade from your strength. Feel Pitching, Catcher, Corner OF would be spots were depth is stronger in system. Fell MIF & OF are pretty thin already & you avoid moving from that area if you can. Areinamo is pretty intriguing of other teams. Is sandwiched between Pratt & Made. He’s a top 10-15 kid in system who can flat out fit & tapping a bit more into power.

Yeah, a big "no thanks" for me on Otto Lopez.  I'm sure he is a decent SS, but I'm certainly not giving up Pratt for a guy that's not going to be an impact guy in the lineup.  The way Ortiz has been playing coming out of the break, I'd just assume that we roll with him if this would be our best trade target to improve the SS position.

Lopez had a better first half than Joey. I don't think he is an obvious upgrade moving forward. Why don't you put last year's numbers up?

I like Lopez ... but he was a DFA guy a year+ ago. Glad he has found a home. I could be very wrong but I don't see an obvious reason why Joey won't outproduce him in totality from now until EOY.

This is them in 2024 and 2025. Lopez has been better across the board and significantly better xwOBA

I asked for last year's numbers and you added this year's into it. I'd politely ask that you not pad the stats for one side of the argument.

I'll restate my stance. I like Lopez. I'd welcome him on the team. I don't think it's fair to write off Ortiz over a bad offensive first half of a season, especially when he has shown marked improvement over the last stretch and the player you are replacing him with is somewhere between the same and marginally better. That isn't even considering the cost of acquisition - which the OP has suggested be 4 players including Cooper Pratt.

Vibes are a real thing. If you jettison Joey for Lopez the extra output in production has to offset the potential Hader effect.

I both hope I'm right and Joey wins us the World Series and I also hope I'm wrong and Lopez wins us the World Series.

In my humble opinion the two guys to upgrade for the stretch run are Bauers and Mona. Hopefully one of those replacements is a LHB 1st baseman and the other one is a guy who can provide power off the bench. I think we could replace Joey but it has to be a significant upgrade.. not a parellel+ move.

Last two years...

Otto
95 wRC+ | +3.4 BsR | +21.0 DEF | 4.7 WAR

Ortiz
90 wRC+ | +0.8 BsR | +18.1 DEF | 3.8 WAR

So Otto is pretty much Ortiz just with a slightly higher floor?

Not sure that's worth dishing out Pratt plus for. Especially when the plus would probably have to be considerably better than the proposed Black, C-Rod, Hudson sweeteners.

Also not sure how motivated the Marlins would be to deal Lopez in the first place. They've shown some signs of life over the last couple months going 31 W - 27 L.

Might not seem like much, but if the Marlins can hold on for a winning record in July after posting a winning record in June it will be their first time with back to back winning months since they ran off three winning months in a row in 2017 when they still had Yelich, Stanton, Ozuna & Realmuto.

Otto Lopez is nice addition, good utility piece going to make a run but not a guy who changes the lineup in big/impactful way as everyday SS. Good to have if Joey falls back off & rotate into lineup.

if you were to trade a Pratt, it needs to be for a legit stud. Lopez is solid but I don’t look at him & see SS of the future while he is under control. Bat improves over Ortiz but I will take Joey defensively. He’s been lights out & every game makes 1 wow play. Lopez is a part time SS currently (switches back & forth from SS to 2B)

In a vacuum I would do Pratt for Lopez. In reality I'm not so sure. We end up with a problem of what to do with 2 fairly similar players (Ortiz and Lopez) and what effects you would get from the change. Maybe it's some sort of platoon failure. SS and C i don't like changing up those positions late in the season honestly when the defense is working. If Ortiz was still hitting like his May numbers I would be all for it.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.
