A couple of things just to answer in response to the thread here:

The water bags are a means of making sure that your body is transferring energy correctly through the throwing motion. Its a warm up without actually using your arm, and is a great way to find your timing and rhythm in loosening up.

His innings are typically short because he can get drawn into long plate appearances, as well as some deep count walks. I've addressed that above somewhat in how he uses some of his pitches that could be tweaked to allow him to generate both quicker outs early in the count, and quicker putaways when he gets ahead.

If you look at his splits (and credit @wiguy94 for messaging me all of this last night), by inning, there's no reason he can't give you five quality innings against almost anyone:

Quote

1st - 41 PA, 46% K-rate, 10% BB-rate, .304 xwOBA

2nd - 39 PA, 35% K-rate, 13% BB-rate, .252 xwOBA

3rd - 34 PA, 29% K-rate, 15% BB-rate, .275 xwOBA

4th - 34 PA, 32% K-rate, 12% BB-rate, .277 xwOBA

5th - 17 PA, 59% K-rate, 0%% BB-rate, .145 xwOBA

The results may not have been there of late, but he's not far off at all. He struck out 10 in five innings just a start ago!!

Since the AS Game break: Brewers have played 43 games counting the rainout makeup vs Cubs.  Jacob Miz has pitched 21 1/3 innings since then,  those are closer type numbers not starter type numbers.

So him bouncing off the mound...

I just think he should do his bouncing and skipping in the dugout. Kinda like the bat flips and two minute HR trots? "But that is just today's generation," says the Boomer.

And starter vs. reliever? I think he should stay right where he is because if he implodes in the 9th, there is really no room for error, whereas in the 3rd? Well, a little more chance for a comeback.

Rhys Hoskins has zero MLB at bats in that time.. It's an interesting debate to go down, but the injury break, a subsequent ramp up, does negate the value of this statistic

Here's how Pat Murphy explained the Brewers' decision to keep Rhys Hoskins on rehab assignment for a little longer.

I like

Game 1 Freddy, Game 2 Woody (if he recovers some), Game 3 Priester, Game 4 planned bullpen game 1-3 innings Misi (out at 1st struggles), 2-5 Quintana, bullpen as needed.

If we start Misi I would cap it. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in as a reliever in a big spot if we were down a run or two, I probably wouldn't risk it if we were ahead.

Absolutely! My point is that Misiorowski missed time on the IL since the All Star break, so using that span to see what innings he covered isn't a fair statistical representation (though he hasn't eaten a ton of innings obviously)

Probably. That's why I said Ashby and Misi giving him out of the pen would be a very good outcome and if they come in and get us through 5 strong.

But, I'm also not capping Misiorowski. If he is throwing like he has some other games and he's through 5 with 10Ks and 1H, I'm going to let him go back out there....assuming his pitch count is under control.

I'm start him... I'd have Quintana ready to go and... basically just hope for the best. He's one of the few pitchers that can just overpower these lineups we'll face in the post-season.

He's the last guy I want coming in with 2 on and 1 out though. Not the way he walks people. But we've got another month to see who we can get back healthy(or hopefully everyone else stays healthy).

IF he were to start, yes I think Quintana should be the one to follow him. Change of hand & style is about as drastic for an opponent as you can get.

Certainly if he relieves you'd want him starting an inning for the reasons you mentioned (save for a runner on 3rd& less than two out; that might work). And not capping him, for sure. Have a plan in place, but if he's rolling throw it out the window.

I don't see what difference it makes if you plan him as 2-3 innings person whether it comes to start the game or in the middle of the game.  Since he's been starting its probably easier to keep the routine and yank after one time through or as soon as he struggles anytime in inning 3 or later.

That said, with how he's struggled a bit combined with his innings limits and Miller/Megill hurt.  I could certainly see a logic in starting to prep him now or soon to be a one inning guy for the playoffs to take one of those spots.

I think the bigger reason for Hoskins still being in Nashville is they have Bauers, Seigler, and Urias in contention for spots on the postseason roster & are undecided as to which way to go, They want to see Urias play for a week at AAA. They know Hoskins will be on the PS roster & leaving him in Nashville to get regular ABs buys them more time to sort out the above three.
