Home ownership can be much more expensive than people think...

After dealing with a $90,000 insurance claim at my last house + another 100K out of pocket, I'm not in a rush to buy back in, especially with the current price+mortgage rate combo.

Where I currently am in California there is a near-infinite supply of full home rentals available with far lower monthly payments than an equivalent mortgage, zero maintenance risk, and meanwhile my equity from prior home ownership experiences sits in a bank account earning money. Whoever bought my current residence 30 years ago is making bank but I honestly don't care, I'm paying only about 60% of what it would cost to own.

And with the job market being what it is, relocation flexibility is extremely valuable. We moved for my wife's job, she likes, it, but if the situation changes or a better opportunity comes along for her we can quickly pack up and relocate again.

I had some people ******** at me today at my job. Doesn't happen too often but generally I can handle it well. Unfortunately some dummie decided she was going to lecture me and wag her finger in my face. I pretty much lost it on her.... that is my grievance.

I don't blame you. I thought the only scenario where you see that anymore is A) parents with an unruly/disruptive child or B) elderly politicians for the benefit of the camera.

Someone did that to a friend of mine the other day at the local dog park because she thought his German Shepherd was unruly. This occured in the large dog area, which she was occupying with her dog that I'll bet weighed all of 12-15 LBs. It takes all kinds, I guess.

Cat is down to 6#. Maybe a gut thing, maybe kidneys. Dunno. Can't really pay $700/organ for the vet to try and narrow things down, either. Unlikely a curable thing, anyway. Eats roughly a can of wet food/day, which is better than before. On some steroids now which is probably the last bet. This is the good one of the two, too.

edit: Stopped home today during work. Cat hadn't eaten much of the wet food from the feeding machine. So gave it treats which it gobbled up, greedily. Gave it more, at that, too. So took the wet food out of the machine and put the tray on the floor and it wouldn't eat that. Just moved the wet food from the tray to a plate and then it ate all that food, too. It used to get dry food, but I figured it would like wet food more (and it does, as it begs me for it in the morning). Is there something I can interpret from that which would change its feeding or food?
