Say the Red Sox collapse and throw in the towel.

Willson Contreras to Milwaukee for Andrew Vaughn, Jett Williams and one of Jaron DeBerry, Tyson Hardin, Coleman Crow.

Red Sox get Vaughn so they are not left naked at first base DH while Casas rehabs. Jett Williams a Top 100ish prospect who is completely blocked in Milwaukee, and a young pitching prospect, and may be able to get under the luxury tax threshold with more sales.

Contreras would add balance as a right handed power bat could primarily play 1B plus DH against lefties in place of Yelich. Bauers moves into a full-time role in right field bumping Frelick to 4th outfielder.

When Bauers leaves as a free agent this winter the Brewers aren’t left naked at 1B. Contreras under contract through 2027 by which time one of the Brewers first base prospects should be ready to take the baton.

Contreras is owed $30 million approximately from now through the end of 2027 including buy out on option. Vaughn making $7+M this year and likely $10M if retained for 2027, so the net spend for the Brewers is about $13M which is steep and the biggest wrinkle

The next biggest wrinkle would be Contreras’s no trade clause, but I think he’d probably wanna play with his brother despite all the alleged bad blood business with Milwaukee

STOP!

I have always wondered, but now I am sure, your role here is board antagonist..  🙂

That would not solve our issues with not playing Vaughn.  You think Bauers will be our full time RF and delegate Frelick, Murphy's personal man crush, to 4th outfielder?  You think Yelich is going to start taking the bench vs lefties?  C'mon.  Never going to happen.

That is WAY too much to give up for a douchebag victim like Willson Contreras.  Dude is really good at playing the victim.  Do his teammates even like him?  Do you think they like backing up his shenanigans on the field?  My guess is every time he leaves for a new team, his previous team breathes a sigh of relief, knowing they no longer have to come to his aid the next time he makes a fool of himself.

When Bauers leaves in the off season, that leaves 1B wide open for Vaughn.  Hopefully, that means he starts playing a lot more vs right handed pitchers, and if not, or he has no success in that role, one of our young guys should be ready by that time.  I don't think we are going to hold Burke/Adams/ Fischer/Wilken back until 2028.  At least one of those fellas is going to see Milwaukee next season...

We'll never take on that $30 million, never!  It's not the Brewer way.

Yeah, I'm sure Willson would love to play a season with his brother, but that feel good story doesn't trump the fact that Willson is a douche and I don't think anyone wants that idiot in the clubhouse.  Not to mention, William has a chance to be on the trade block for 2027.  Maybe William could curb his nonsense if they were teammates, maybe not, but I don't want to take the risk.

 But you don’t hate it…..😁

He shouldn’t have thrown the helmet, but I think most of his antics are an act. He crowds the plate and knows he’s going to get hit doing it, so he puts on a huge intimidation game to try to get pitchers not to hit him. At the end of the day, I want to see the team win and don’t mind much is a player is abrasive, but I’d imagine off the field they realize they’re all members of the same ultra elite club and probably get along fine “at work”.
